About this listen

Miss Camilla Pierpont, a renowned matchmaker and influential member of the New York Four Hundred, has vowed never to marry after suffering a devastating heartbreak during her debut years ago. However, when she is nearly abducted along the Hudson River, she finds herself rescued by an annoyingly outspoken, albeit fascinating, gentleman who challenges her in a manner she wasn't expecting.

After learning that Camilla Pierpont has enjoyed success with taking wayward young ladies in hand, Mr. Owen Chesterfield travels to the Hudson River Valley determined to convince Camilla to sponsor his sister, who is in desperate need of social rehabilitation.

Knowing her life is in danger, Camilla agrees to Owen's proposition and travels with him to West Virginia, finding herself charmed by the less-than-formal attitude of his small hometown, as well as by Owen himself. But danger waits in the shadows, disrupting what she knows would be the most spectacular match she's ever made-her own.

Fast Paced Humor!

While I enjoyed the story and the humor it wasn’t my favorite! I will listen to it again because Jen Turano has an amazing gift for humor.
The narrator Did Not suit Owen, who was described as a tall, broad shoulders handsome man. I just couldn’t imagine him with a squeaky voice. The narrator did fit the other characters. I liked the fact that their was romance, mystery, and a lot of humor with a message to this book. Carrying grudges doesn’t help in creating harmony. Life is so much easier when we forgive past grievances and move on to accept people for who they are.
I loved the fact, that a person from the New York 400, could appreciate and value the people who come from A very different life style. It makes life so much more colorful when you can blend different lifestyles.
Thank you Jen for writing another great book that makes this world a brighter place.

Absolutely hilarious Gilded Age

Jen Turano knows how to make the reader laugh, that’s for sure! From the very beginning to the very end, the banter and conversations are hilarious! The narrator is excellent and you can hear her lips twitching and eyes gleaming the whole way through! Absolutely loved this book, and this series! Clean Gilded Age rom-com at its best!!

What a wonderful storyteller Jen Turano is you can tell. She takes time and loves her characters and she is hilarious.

I was extremely disappointed in the reader. She diminish the story. Her voice is high-pitched and she read too fast, which is a shame. I had anticipated this book for months. I don’t know who chose this reader, but you made a very bad choice for this book.

Lacking depth

The story line had some merit, but had too many characters which made it hard to follow. The theme of recipe and talk of kissing was juvenile. No real substance in story line.

I wanted to love it but it fell flat for me

I don’t know how a narrator gets picked to read for audible, but sometimes the wrong one causes a good story to fall flat. I don’t believe it’s Jen’s writing because I’m a long time fan of hers. The voices were all wrong and oddly matched to the characters. It also doesn’t help that in book 2 we had to adjust to a new narrator for the voices from book 1. Now we have to adjust again… Poor Arabella and Camila‘s voice are so vastly different in all three books, but this was the worst. It’s like she used a man’s voice for Arabella-which is odd and doesn’t match her personality that we’ve learned to love in book 2. Don’t get me started on Camila‘s voice for this book. She sounds like she’s a teenager not a mature woman like she sounded and book 2. I’m curious if Jen had the character talking with tons of ???? At the end of their dialogues. It constantly felt like everyone was asking questions from the way their voices would raise up at the end of their conversations.
I decided to plow through although I did speed up the narrator a bit to get through it. I kept contemplating returning the book and not finishing it.
There were all the hallmarks of a Jen T book. Which I appreciated but I can’t recommend this one. It doesn’t add or take away from the other 2 books in the series. So you’re not missing out other than finding out how Camila’s story ends. It’s too bad I was looking forward to this book.
