About this listen

From the NAACP Image award winner and national best-selling author Victoria Christopher Murray comes a novel inspired by the seven deadly sins about a woman caught between an entertainment mogul with a shady past and his childhood friend who is out for revenge.

Is lust a sin?

Tiffanie has lived a sheltered life in a very strict household with her pastor grandfather and her grandmother in Washington, DC. But when she meets Damon, she falls for the successful entertainment businessman despite his history as a drug dealer. Everyone sees a bright future for the couple - yet when Tiffanie meets Trey, her lustful feelings leave her confused just days before her wedding.

Trey is Damon's childhood best friend with whom he built a successful drug business. But when the game got hot, and Damon decided to leave, Trey stayed and continued to sell drugs until he was arrested and spent seven years in prison. Now he's out and able to attend the wedding. While Damon is thrilled to have Trey back and hopes to bring his best friend into his business, Trey has other plans. And in the end, there will only be one man standing....

Contains mature themes.

Enjoyable Story - SPOILER

VCM is one of my favourite authors. This is a good story which kept my attention all of the way through. I never liked the main character, though, and I didn't feel any sympathy for her at any point in the book. She didn't deserve Damon. This was not lust, it was adultery. Just because there was no penetration does not negate all the things that happened between Tiffany and Tre'. She suffered no consequences for her actions. Tre' never made her do anything. She made conscious choices. I thought Damon should have told Tre' how it was Damon who took care of Tre' while he was in jail. I wanted Damon to shoot Tiffany too. However, I thought it was a good twist at the end, showing unconditional love from her husband. He is a new creature in Christ that commits murder, though? Still a good listen. I'm looking forward to listening to all seven titles. Congratulations, VCM, on your movie deal.

Ending

I think it would’ve been cool to see what happened if Tiffany found out he killed trey...the ending in general could’ve been a bit better but all was decent

Loved it!

I tried to find the print version of this book to read for a book club. It was sold out and I didn't want to wait for delivery because 1 person had finished it and another person was close to finishing it. It took me a day and a 1/2 to finish listening. The book itself was very intriguing and the way the narrators read their parts drew me in like I was watching a movie. I'm ready for the discussion brunch and I'm ready to read the other books in this series ASAP.

Too much...and at the same time too little!

First, let's address the elephant in the room...The narrator for Damon was the absolute worst! I mean quadruple cringe! 😬 l had to rest my ears many times to finish this one!
l believe that this was my first listening to anything by this particular author...so l am going to give alot of grace. However, this book was just not good..in my opinion. It seemed as though the author was trying to merge true love, faith, spiritual warfare, salvation, naivete, deliverance, lust, marriage, fidelity/infidelity, revenge, and thuggery into one long drawn out storyline. But it just didn't come together. You got Tiffany out there chasing an orgasim because of what her girlfriends were spitting in her ears. lnstead of Praying to The Most High and fasting about it (Miss, l was brought up in church and never missed a Sunday) Or, talking to her man about it. The man who loves her and is totally devoted to her...the one who would even kill for her! Or going to her Pastor(grandpa) for prayer...or seeking advice and wisdom from her grandma... who seemed to be down for any and every conversation. With all those choices...what does she do? Loose her everloving mind over an ol G drug deale...who just got out of prison?! This is an attractive young woman with money ...who comes in contact with men on a regular basis. She has been with Damon for six years and yet she never meant anyone to get her all hot and bothered till Tre?! Make that make sense! And Damon, who is a real street dude and used to be(and still is when necessary) about that life...he couldn't see what Tre was on from the jump? Make that make sense. l can understand that he's turned his life around...but when you really from them streets...your thought process will always be the same in one way or another...Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
The story lost me when you tried to pull The Most High, the creator of everything! into some mess. Making it seem like true pray and true belief in the creator couldn't resolve the conflicts in this couple's life without any help of man. Tiffany offered herself up on a platter to Tre...and yes, they did engage in sex...penetraion or not...they had sex! So, yes, she cheated. And why not just have Damon explain to Tiffany the reasoning behind the way he treated her sexually? That was something so beautiful..and he should have said it directly to her! But you minimized it to just his head thoughts...that was not cool. And as for the ending...it was not sufficient at all. Yes... resist the Devil and he will flee from you. Don't invite the devil into your home and let him get a foothold...because it will be hell trying to get him out! You can't bring The Most High into a story like this and then wrap everything up in a neat little package at the end. There are repercussions and consequences that where just swept under the rug. This is the longest review l have ever done! I felt compelled to express my reasons for only give 3 stars. I am on the fence about recommend this book. So, listen or read at your own discretion.

Great Book

I thought this was a great book! The story was fast moving and held my attention. I did not like the narrator/voice for Damon. In fact, I thought he was horrible. His voice just did not fit the character of Damon. If it had not been for Adenrele Ojo's voice for Tiffany and wanting to know how the story was going to end, I would have returned the book.

For Entertainment Onlu

Easy listen, soap opera style is entertaining. Female narrator is good. Something about the male narrator's voice did not fit the character.

These characters are gullible

The two main characters were so gullible it was so annoying to listen to all the red flags that they missed with Tre. SMH

Good story, but the narrator for Damon

Good story, but the narrator for Damon was a no for me. It felt like he was trying way to hard.

I enjoyed the book and the narration from the female narrator. The male narrator did not match the character at alllll. Otherwise again great book.
