Publisher's summary

I was warned about Tristan Cole. "Stay away from him," people said. "He's cruel." "He's cold." "He's damaged."

It's easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster. But I couldn't do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him, because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty. We were both looking for something else. Something more. We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays. Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

Heartbreaking and heavy

Wow. This one was emotional. I hesitated on the book because I read the preview and could see it would be a heavy story, but after hating the last three I listened to, I finally landed on this one. I'm glad I did. It was adult...something a lot of books have been lacking, and it was deeply heartbreaking and beautiful. At 32, finding a great story that doesn't revolve around college age is getting more difficult, and its hard to get into the mind set.. here, you're dealing with loss and pain that play on your biggest fears. The author nailed it, there were eye roll moments, but at the same time they were fairly relatable. I formed an emotional bond to the characters and even found myself so sad I was throwing it aside only to pick it right back up because I had to know what was next. Brian Pallino was the other reason I finally decided on this one, he and Erin Mallon both are fantastic. Great read, fantastic listen, but prepare yourself to feel the emotions.

Too much drama

And not in the good sense, the forever surly narration of the male character didn't help. I'm more than ok with dramatic plots but this was just too centralized on it for me to enjoy much.

Such a tragic but beautiful story!

Another sad but beautiful story. I was sucked in from the very beginning and could not listening to this book. Brian’s narration of Tristian was great. I could heard the agony in his voice which broke my heart every time. Definitely moving on to book 2.

wow!!

This story is so raw and beautiful yet sad and eye opening. I'm glad Tristian let Liz in. The ending was the craziest plot twist iI have heard in a romance in a long time. Such a good read!!

a rollercoaster lesson

I'm always in awe by Brittany's skill with the pen. Bravo. I love how irritating a character could be, but you learn deeper there's rhyme & reason to what makes them the way they are. you become invested. I became invested in the family before they were a family.
