We've all heard the story of the Four Horsemen. Harbingers of the apocalypse. Destruction given form. Four of the sexiest - wait no - forget that. You get my point.

So imagine my surprise when I find out everything I've ever been told, is a lie.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves here. Let's start from the beginning.

My name is Ruby Morningstar. I run a tattoo parlor in Portland with my best friend, have a pet raccoon, a crazy ex who stalks me, not to mention this one little thing...I'm a demon. Half-succubus, to be exact. For the last 23 years of my life, that's the story I believed, but on the day a handsome stranger bails me out of jail my world is turned upside down, and suddenly I don't know who I am anymore.

Because the Four Horsemen aren't the bringers of the apocalypse.

I’d was a good story line, it just needed more to it. The characters were believable, but didn’t get a full picture of them.

Abruptly ends which is sad. I was fully immersed in the story. Luckily the others in the series are available. There’s humor and romance and darkness. Perfect trifecta.

I need more. Immediately. All four of these MMCs make me wanna do things. I need more of them. But also… lovely storytelling. Ruby is raw and real. And her life is relatable (minus the demon part.) felt like a fresh spin on stories we’ve heard many times before.

I absolutely love this series. I have already read books 1-3 and just had to have the audio version as well. The narrator also did a fantastic job.

Not sure why they didn’t have two narrators. Holly did great, but it would have been better with a male voice added to it.

I really enjoyed this book. Some spice, some killing, great humor. Narrator was perfect. I hope there is a second book it would be interesting follow and see if she embraces the kingdom she so deserves

Overall, interesting beginning of the story. Sadly I won't be finishing it. At least not for now. If you've watched Lost Girl (TV show MC is Bo a half succubus) then you'll probably like this book. However, since there was ZERO indication anywhere of SA, I'm going to give the trigger warning for SA that happens in this book to the MC. Sorry for spoilers but anyone who can understand the importance of the SA trigger warning will appreciate the spoiler. The MC is a personality I admire and enjoy so I'm interested in her story, but completely turned off from finishing the books now.
Kel Carpenter, would you PLEASE consider trigger warnings in your future books! Gore, fine with that. MC's and the guy's revenge....honestly lacking a bit for me personally but good enough, I guess.

I waited til I'd listened to all four books..... The first two books in the series were a great pleasure to listen to -- the female protagonist had great depth, paranormal insights, some powers and powers adding, and a fabulously loyal friend. She had four men of various godly types show up to guard her and convince her she had to give up her earthly life and go to hell with them on a mission -- it's a great story line, and the author did a really fun job of writing the first two books in the series. I so admired the female lead's attitude toward the men, who of course oozed sexual appeal, of demanding that they show their worthiness of her sexual attention -- and in the first two books, she held them at bay, demanding their respect of her as an adult, who could make her own decisions. and, unless you like really funky sex scenes spelled out in great detail -- multiple partners, multiple orifices -- you might want to skip book 3 and just go to book 4, if you've already listened to 1 and 2 in the series. The first two books are fun. Three and four are strewn with moaning and sex, alternating with a serious as death mission to hell. See my review of book 3 and 4. The first two books were great - if the author had continued on with the same sassy, woman in control, "prove you are worth my affection" attitude, even with the mission to hell, and continued requiring the men to learn to treat her as an adult capable of rational thought and reasoning, and then finished off book 4 with her acceptance of them and the sexual activities, I'd have five starred all four books all around even with the funky submissive sex … luckily, book four completed the series, as I don't think I could have waded through any more "I love pain" comments, whining for sex, biting til the partner bleeds, etc etc to get to the (actually very satisfactory) conclusion of the book series in book 4.

Books 1 and 2 are very fine … 3 & 4, not so much
