About this listen

Despite their respective job woes, things are good for Jamie and Laura Newman. After all, they’re madly in love, newly married, and having loads of hot sex; what could go wrong? Plenty.

When Laura vomits on prospective employers during an important job interview, she discovers that it’s not the aftereffects of a hangover, but that she - much to her horror - is pregnant. The couple will need to keep a sense of humor amidst the mood swings, awkward sex, bizarre pregnancy cravings (detergent anyone?), and weight gain that ensue. Add in a terrifying midwife, an overbearing mother-in-law, and the horror of a sober girls’ night out, and it’s a recipe for disaster - not to mention loads of laughs. And that’s before the baby arrives!

Now if they can only keep from losing their newborn in the grocery store, they might make it out alive in this laugh-out-loud, raunchy, relatable comedy of everyday life as a new parent.

So funny

There is a lot of cursing in this book but it is so so funny!

Excellent listen

Loved as much as the first, perhaps even funnier. This one had an unexpected 'serious' chapter that was beautiful written & narrated. Also, Nick did a fab job at telling the story of new parents without hitting all the same cliche story lines.

Very cute and true to life

Many funny (very funny) moments (of particular note, camping trip + bees). Also, though, a bit slow at times, which is why I rated it as I did. Narrators were excellent (Napoleon Ryan had somewhat better literary material with which to work) and both brought the characters they read to colorful life. All-in-all, an enjoyable book, indeed.

Same excellent Nick Spalding, but...

It's soooo much complaining about having a baby. As a mother, I know what's it's all about, but could do without the ridiculously dramatic complaints. Overall a sweet story, but it's more of a means to an end of the sequel of Jaime & Laura.

good but Nick has written funnier.

funny however I didn't really like the way Laura was always irritated with her husband. He was trying and she was not happy and didn't think much of his skills as a man or parent. I think so many relationships fall into this error.

Warning - hysterical laughter ahead!

Unless you want people to think you are crazy walking down the street laughing hysterically to yourself this is not the book for you.

I love Nick Spaldings books. Typical British sarcasm and wit which as an expat I find a breath of fresh air.

The narrators are perfectly brilliant. Wouldn't be the same without them both!

silly

I had a hard time getting into this. There were funny parts but I couldn't get into the narrating. I recommended it to a girl I work with who just happens to be preggo right now & I think she will love it

Funniest Nick Spalding Book So Far!

I am a fan of the author, having listened to and enjoyed two other of his books recently, Fat Chance and Bricking It. For me, this book was the funniest yet and I enjoyed it the most. I found it the most consistently funny although it did have its touching moments, too. Although it is part 4 of a series, Love . . . And Sleepless Nights is easily a stand-alone book, which is always nice.

In summary, recently married couple, Jamie and Laura Newman, find themselves unexpectedly expecting a baby. The book starts at this point and goes up through the first year of their baby's life. There are so many funny laugh-out-loud moments that when I wasn't listening to the book, I was replaying them in my mind and continuing to chuckle. From Jamie's baby name recommendations to the Namibian midwife (oh, my), to the birthing class, to the birth certificate fiasco, and so many more events in between, it was almost a laugh a minute for me.

Sure, their adventures are a bit exaggerated, and in some parts, I seriously worried the story would scare off couples on the fence about having children. But really, if you've ever had children, to keep your sanity you just have to sit back and laugh about the experiences. And of course, it is much easier to laugh about it after you are out of the midst of it all!

If you liked Spalding's other books, you should love this one. If he is new to you, he could be your new favorite author. Wilds and Ryan have narrated all three books I have listened to and really complement each other well. It all works for me!

Laugh out loud funny!

I read this series almost one year ago. Audible classifies this book and the rest of this Nick Spalding "Love and" series as contemporary romance. It definitely is humor, not romance. Any woman who has ever been pregnant as well as any husband who has ever lived with his pregnant wife will love this book and this series and the memories they recall. Although it was over 40 years ago I vividly remember my wife's pregnancies and Nick Spalding humorously describes what living with a pregnant wife is like. It's a time in my life with funny memories that I would not trade for anything. Narration is outstanding.
