Publisher's summary

What would you do if you knew a child who was being abused? If that child was a member of your family? Would you call the authorities and have the child taken away, or would you turn a blind eye?

These are the kind of questions that Lost in Thought provokes. The author, who lived through the atrocities mentioned in this audiobook, paints a vivid if disturbing image of child abuse and how it affects the psyche as one grows older. What begins as abuse leads quickly to suicidal thoughts and loss of control.

Lost in Thought is the unbelievable true story of a child who was in this predicament. His mother, who was hooked on prescription pills, sexually abused him for years and convinced him that nothing was out of the ordinary. Family members knew of the horrifying situation yet did nothing to stop it. He distanced himself from his family as he grew older only to become more of an outcast.

This is the powerful true story of a man who was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome on the autism spectrum in his mid-20s, overcame adversity, and took back control of his life before it was too late.

Lost In Thought

This is a sad tale of what happens to some children all too frequently. I am sorry to hear that these things happened to the author but was glad to hear that he was able to find a way out and a way to better himself. Not many children are able or offered this kind of chance. No matter how bad or what kind of abuse a person goes through it is still abuse and I am always saddened to see that parents and family can treat anyone so badly. Narrator Todd Waites keeps this story moving at a good pace.

Well?

This book was really not for me. Instead of a flowing narrative, the author just listed events of his childhood. After a while it seemed monotonous.
However, the narrator was quite good.
I was given a copy of the audiobook. This is my honest review.

The narration is superb and gives the story that extra flair! The author did an excellent job with his story especially his pain and triumphs. This was my first book by this author but definitely not my last! I look forward to reading more books from this author. Abuse

It must have taken great courage to write this open and frank story of his life. Like the author I hope his story will help to enlighten others to see and report abuse and help victims of abuse.

Thought and emotion provoking book!

This is a very good book. Although sometimes disheartening and painful to listen to because of the subject. I believe this type of child abuse happens more than is recorded or believed and we tend to not want to believe it's true. The narrator did a good job and I appreciate the authors candidness. I know this was extremely hard for the author to write and the pain of losing family on top of the abuse he endured, must have been unbearable at times. I was relieved in the end that the little boy who was so abused grew up to be a strong man and now has goodness, family and love in his life.

It took great courage to write this book!

It took great courage, as well as love for children who are suffering, for the author to write this book. As I listened this book, I could feel the young boy’s pain, his isolation, and his rejection by his family. The authors insight into the value of the suffering and how it strengthened him in his adult life was the crowning jewel of this book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is living in this type of situation and to foster parents. I wish I had read this book when I was caring for foster children.

Heartbreaking but beautiful survival

There were times during this book when I had to stop listening because it broke my heart than anyone would have to suffer so much. It was worth it though because the story of someone who was beaten down so badly and still be able to survive and thrive is a hopeful inspiration to anyone struggling with hard times. A very heartbreaking narrative

The subject matter of this book is truly heartbreaking. I feel so sad for the author. Sexual abuse should never happen to anyone, and especially not to a child. Very brave to wright about it.
For me, the book was a bit longer than it needed to be. And it did jump around a bit.. The author explains why later in the book.
I was confused about why he wanted his parents in his life as an adult. But since I have not lived through abuse, and can't presume to know what that does to a person's ability to block out toxic people.
I enjoyed how he wrapped up the ending and I am happy he found his peace.
