About this listen

Based loosely on Louisa May Alcott's own upbringing, Little Women follows the lives of four sisters - Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March. Each girl has a vision of what their ideal future will bring, though ultimately experiencing, as most young do, something completely different. Little Women, originally written as two volumes, was a great commercial success and is considered one of the most widely read American novels.

Such a great narrator!

I listened to several samples before choosing a version, and I’m so glad I picked this one! Captures all the characters’ personalities, and makes each sound distinct in a very natural way. Every bit of humor, irony and pathos is right there in your ear and mind. I will be sorry when this ends.

An American Classic

A beautiful book, too often overlooked, denigrated, or dismissed as "children's literature" or "chick lit". It ought to be read far more seriously by adult readers of both sexes as it provides the 21st century reader with an invitation to experience a piece of an exceptional period in an exceptional country's history.

Plenty of honey on the medicine.

A morally uplifting tale without being unduly preachy, But the occasional sermon is so naturally and pleasingly set that it is delightful.

great story

struggled to begin but it was worth it. I tried a different version first (the $2 one) but the recording volume level would vary so greatly you couldn't listen with any background noise. this recording was decent. love the story but not enough to read the sequels.

Great narration of a classic!

The voices were well done, although the speaking was a little slow. I sped it up a bit. I loved every minute! The chapters were synced with the paper version do I could seamlessly alternate between them or find passages to mark.

Best narration by Susie Berneis!

This particular version highlights the specialness of the story and I found it most enjoyable! I tried to listen to the Laura Dern version but found all the production was too distracting.
Beautiful sweet story-instructive and inspiring as well!

Wonderful to re-read as an adult! So many layers and details I had forgotten.

Performance was great

Since there are many versions of Little Woman to choose from, and no reviews of this performance, I took a chance. Susie Berneis did not disappoint. She did a fine job. Consistent, steady, expressive. She captured all of the characters very well. No complaints. Recommend this performance.
