About this listen
Adam Murphy wants to be a serious journalist. Unfortunately, he spends his days writing copy about underwear and abs for a gay lifestyle magazine. When a troubled young porn star brings him a tip about a recently deceased marine's secret visit to an infamous pimp for underage boys, Adam is determined to break the story... until someone starts threatening his life.
Undeterred, Adam begins to unravel a deadly conspiracy involving runaway sugar daddies, salacious A-list parties, and three handsome young men who have vanished without a trace. Now he must enter the seedy underbelly of LA to find the truth behind their disappearance, as well as the disappearance of his ex-lover, Corey - who may have some deadly secrets of his own.
In this supercharged modern noir tale of sex, drugs, and revenge from New York Times bestselling author Christopher Rice, getting to the bottom of a scandalous story can be dangerous... if not downright fatal.

The best of Christopher Rice
I’ve been a huge fan of this book since it first came out. Now, being a person in recovery living in Los Angeles it has even more of an impact. So many fantastic great characters. As soon as you can barely keep track of the story and its many players everything comes together as the truth is revealed in the most amazing way. Rice has made an incredible lead character with Adam Murphy. I would love to see him revisited. Also, Cole Ferguson is fantastic as the narrator.

Great book!
What did you love best about Light Before Day?
The narration was really wonderful and they way the narrator was able to take you from character to character in different voices which makes you imagine each character in a different way. The story weaves a web that takes you down a road of surprises around every corner.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Light Before Day?
Building up the main character to understand their personality and how they react to everything going on. After that, the novelist, the bathhouse, the suicide, the boat, the everything. The boy in white running through the forest with his arms stretched out in front of him.
What about Cole Ferguson’s performance did you like?
He was incredible. He was able to change his voice at a moments notice to match each person in the book. He didn't seem like he was reading a story but telling one. One of the best narrations I have heard.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Too many to count.
Any additional comments?
A great book for anyone. Just because it focuses on gay characters doesn't mean you have to be gay to read it. There was a great plot to a book that could have been about anyone, gay or straight.

Suspenseful story with great narration.
The story kept me guessing till the end. Some moments of repetitive dialog and explanation, but I didn't lose track of the direction the plot was headed. The narrator seemed an excellent choice for the main character, and he did a great job of creating distinct voices for all the other characters.
Look forward to more books and audiobooks by this team.

Hardboiled mystery, noir and gay
The story was intelligently written, albeit highly detailed and a trifle long. Despite me being a straight 73 year old female, I found the characters realistic and relatable. At first, the all gay storyline was a bit jarring, but by putting orientation aside, it was an engrossing, fast paced tale. I had enjoyed some of Rice's early works and it appears his style has only improved.

Nice plot twists. Not too graphic but still disturbing in a nice way. I think he's used the same plot devices in something else he wrote.

A Decent Read
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
It was entertaining and kept me guessing for awhile.
If you’ve listened to books by Christopher Rice before, how does this one compare?
This was much better than The Vines and The Snow Garden.
What does Cole Ferguson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He offers each character his/her own voice, offering a perfect pace, which kept me engaged.
Did Light Before Day inspire you to do anything?
It made me think a lot about human trafficking and addiction, neither pleasant topics, but both serious issues in the United States.
