Publisher's summary

Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence.

Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning. Child after child disappeared, a reign of terror the town desperately wants to forget. Now that terror has returned to seize another girl. And another. And another.

This is the story Laura's been waiting for - her one last chance to get back onto the front page. She dives deeper into a case that runs colder by the second, only to discover the truth may be far closer to home than she could have ever imagined.

Powerful, intricate, and tense, Last Girl Gone will have you looking over your shoulder long after the last page.

What’s Ruth the whispering narrator?

The story was good, but the whispering narrator was extremely irritating! Almost stopped listening several times.

Exciting throughout

I was on the edge of my seat suspecting everyone just to be caught of guard in the end. Fantastic story!!! The narrator was pleasant to listen to, very engaging!

Terrible main character

Infantile main character makes it difficult to have sympathy for anything going on. Just juvenile as a narrative

Interesting story line

I very much enjoyed this book. I have never read anything by this author before but I will have to check out other books by this author. Laura the reporter certainly gets involved in a very thick plot even though it isn’t 100% believable it certainly keeps you continually waiting for each and every chapter. I recommend this book.

Last Girl Gone

It was a great listen for my road trip. It had enough going on to keep me interested on the long drive. I was surprised when a main story line abruptly ended and wondered...what now. Well, it was worth listening to until the end. I recommend this story.

Engaging piece

Quite an engaging piece. Love the way it doesn't keep you guessing for long but simply gets on with the story

Lots of twists!

I really enjoyed this book. Not at all predictable in my opinion. The narration was excellent as well.

Really enjoyable mystery

I really enjoyed this book. I was not hopeful and it really surprised me. The author has a great voice and his choice of words is rarely, if at all cliché. I was impressed! Mysteries can really get predictable and trite, and I felt like this one was unique and kept you guessing!
