Publisher's summary

"So I thought I might take up paragliding. You know, buy one on eBay and just jump off the cliff one morning."

Emily Willows is middle-aged, widowed, wealthy, and bored. When she makes those flippant remarks to her son over coffee one Friday, she has no inkling that within a few hours she will be facing the most terrifying situation of her life. Nor could she have guessed that she will be confronting it with the enigmatic young woman who moved in next door a few months ago and who has hardly spoken a word to her since. And neither of them has realized yet that after this meeting, their lives will never be the same again.

IT'S A DEFINITE YES

While this audiobook is shorter than most (about 5 hours long), the only substance the story lacks is all the pointless filler that many authors include to make their books fatter and the audiobooks longer. A succinct and smart mystery, good narration, likeable characters, and a hint at the end that we haven't heard the last of the two unusual females featured in this story. Well done, and can't wait for part 2!

Fast-paced start to a new series

Wow - no cozy village mystery with knitting patterns here! The author gives us just enough time to care about the main characters and then off we go. This is more of a suspense novel than it is a mystery. Two women with little in common find themselves fighting for their lives against determined criminals. Can't wait for the rest of the series.

Lane-- interesting character and contrast

I look forward to more like this. The action gets going early and maintains throughout.

Good story, but disappointed in the abrupt ending

I was listening to the story and suddenly, it ended! One, I had not realized how short the story was in terms of hours and so I was not prepared for it to be over in just under six hours. And I felt the story ended at a very strange point but maybe that is the point. To read the next one which I’m not sure I would use a full credit to do so.

I’ll go looking for more of these. By author and by reader

Two amazing heroines. Unique plot. Keeps you reading. Well written. Virtually no superfluous filler. Enjoyed tremendously! Well read too

I READ FOR FUN

This is a perfect weekend listen. The writing was well done as was the narration. I recommend this to any woman over the age of 40 who like empowered female characters and action.

Normally love Grainger books, but …

I read this series because I normally love Peter Grainger books, but I could not get past this narration. Her lisp is distracting, and her monotone delivery leaves the story confusing and flat. I then read the book, and it’s very different.

Good listen

This was a great listen. It kept me interested in all the characters. Though could have fleshed out the son a bit more

A real page turner

Original storyline, interesting characters, fast-paced action - none of the tortured relationships and navel-gazing that sometimes drag out mysteries and thrillers. And Peter Grainger writes so well. His books are always a delight. Definitely recommend.

Interesting but bizarre Story

Original and interesting story line with attractive heroines and heroes. However I found the story unsatisfying as it left unanswered questions which needed answers to understand the rather irrational actions of crooks and police.
