About this listen

His Target

Aspiring model Sandee Rozzo's big mistake was being kind to Timothy "Tracey" Humphrey. After Rozzo refused the 'roided-up ex-con's advances, she described how he imprisoned, raped, and brutalized her for two days. When the courageous woman pledged to testify against him, Humphrey knew he had to silence her....

His Weapon

That's when he turned to 19-year-old Ashley Laney. She had fallen in love with Humphrey, her personal trainer, and would do anything for him. On their wedding night, he made a strange request - one that would end with eight gunshot wounds and a dead body.

His Scheme

The police knew Humphrey was the likely suspect, but he had an alibi for the time of the shooting. How could they prove that, even if he didn't pull the trigger, he was the manipulative psychopath behind Sandee's murder? It would all come down to a prison escape, a manhunt for a killer, and an explosive trial....

Contains mature themes.

Rare bad review here

The narration was torture. He had kind of an over animated, condescending tone. It was too too much. As for the story, the author tried just a little too hard to cast suspicion elsewhere to make the story more unpredictable. I get it but it was sloppy and confusing. I think the character development/descriptions were excellent and showed respect for the victim. Also it was clearly well researched. I just couldn’t enjoy the narration and flow.

Keen Insight Into the Criminal Mind

I love reading books by Michael Phelps. Firstly, he is great at relaying events in a way that makes you feel you are living through the investigation and the incident. Secondly, he has very keen insight into the criminal mind. I doubt if I am alone when I say, certain red flags in people that scream "evil" ~ cause me to quickly create distance between myself and them. But this writer holds your hand and introduces you to the evil in a way that helps you confront it. You can view it through his relay of events from a safe distance. And it helps to know there are others out there who are aware of criminal minds and the characters such minds create. Reading these accounts helps you confront evil. The writer does it as if he is inspecting a water system. The stories are fascinating and his storytelling validates your perceptions of human characteristics you would ordinarily veer away from. Not to suggest all criminals are naturally evil. But the stories Michael Phelps writes about are tales of heavy treason most people, criminals or not, would never pursue. The storytelling and fabulous narrations of his books just make you want to hear the next one.

Great story, but narrator....

I really enjoy this story, it was well written, kept me interested & not a ton of inconsequential details. However, the narrator was hard to take! So nasal sometimes & other times, he reminded me of Nathan Lane & not in a good way. Story was worth hanging in there. I dealt with my own "Tracy" & happy justice was served.

ONE OF THE AUTHER'S BEST

I could not stop listening to KILL FOR ME! This is at the top of my favorite 500 or more True Crime books I have in my Audible library. If I heard this story told to me by a stranger I would not believe it! Some people are true murderous Psychopaths that have to be stopped like the late Charles Manson. The defendant in this case, in many ways, reminded me of Manson who had an uncanny ability to take vulnerable young people under his influence and mold their behavior in every way possible including committing murder for them.

In this case the person who did the actual murder was not the defendant. However, through the defendent's Svengali psychosis, he was able to manipulate others to do his evil acts. This is a man that personifies pure evil. Tracy Humphrey is a rapist, wife beater, and a murderer. Once you start listening to Kill For Me, it will be impossible to turn off your ear buds! This is the kind of story that could get you fired from your job because once you start listening at work YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO STOP!

If I say anymore about this horrifying case, it will ruin the story for you. However, I will say this: You will want to listen to this book more than once because it is very hard to believe it is a true story. IT IS SIMPLY A GREAT TRUE CRIME BOOK! Like I said earlier in my review, KILL FOR ME IS AT THE TOP OF THE TRUE CRIME BOOKS I HAVE EVER LISTENED TO.

Thanks for reading my review. Steve

Great details, a deep dive into a fascinating case

I love M. William Phelps's books, but this one is hard to listen to. I hate Tracey Humphrey so much that I couldn't stop myself from being enraged at his behavior and psychopathy! I would have to take breaks, just to cool off my anger at what I was hearing....other than that, the narration was very good, and the author did a tremendous job in researching this story.

Interesting from start to finish

Very detailed story of the lives of all the characters in the book and what role they played in this event. No assumptions needed by reader. Very well done!

Definitely worth your time and money

Wasn’t terribly interested in this story but once I saw the author I decided to give it a try. Finished the book in two days. I’ve decided M. William is our present day Ann Rule.

I like that the reader did not do accents or try to role play. I want to listen to a book and not listen to someone trying to act it out ... that’s a real turn off for me.

Most definitely worth your time and money.
