About this listen

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books began in 1996 with a simple goal: to bring together the people who create books with the people who love to read them. The festival was an immediate success and has become the largest and most prestigious book festival in the country, attracting more than 130,000 book lovers each year.

Elizabeth Partridge is the author of more than a dozen books. Her most recent young adult biography, John Lennon: All I Want Is the Truth, was a Printz Honor Book. This Land Was Made for You and Me: The Life and Music of Woody Guthrie won the Golden Kite for Nonfiction and the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award.

Candace Fleming is an award-winning author of Ben Franklin's Almanac and Our Eleanor, among others. Her latest book, The Lincolns: A Scrapbook Look at Abraham and Mary, was a finalist for the 2008 Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Young Adult Literature.

Kathleen Krull is known for her lively, award-winning biographies for young readers, including her recent Hillary Rodham Clinton: Dreams Taking Flight.

Kadir Nelson is a widely acclaimed illustrator and two-time recipient of both the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award and the Caldecott Honor. Nelson's most recent books are Change Has Come: An Artist Celebrates Our American Spirit and the children's book All God's Critters.
