About this listen

Contains books one and two of the Kensei series.

Rebirth of the Sword Saint, book 1

The Mage-Emperor has another chance at life. He failed before, he will not fail again.

An 80-year-old Mage-Emperor is murdered by his closest companions because of his own vanity and thirst for power. He is reborn into a fantasy Japan-like world as a baby. Using his vast knowledge of magic and strategy from his previous life, he aims to become this new world's most powerful warrior: the Kensei.

Rise of the Sword Saint, book 2

He was once the Mage-Emperor, but now he is Murasaki Jin. vHirata, now safe from the Wendigo, is undergoing significant changes under Jin's guidance. Jin has brought technological and martial advances unlike anything scene before, all taken from the knowledge of his previous life. But there are enemies lurking in the shadows, and if Jin and his new home are to be prepared, it will require training another become a mage: Toyotoda Ebisu.

Jin will have to take Ebisu into the realm of Magical Beasts so that the boy can find his own bonded monster. But the monster Ebisu finds carries its own secrets.

This reincarnation story features the use of enchanted tattoos crafted from magical beasts, martial arts, empire-building, and light cultivation elements. The main character is hyper-intelligent and hyper-competent.

Excellent story...

...but what is with the cliff hanger. at least give me a epilogue that explains something relevant.

In any event ...great take on the genre.

Really enjoyed it.

Personally I enjoyed the read through. Wasn't complicated or anything, and was easy to follow. Hopefully book 3 comes out soon!!!

Good, but...

The story was well written, but the title is misleading. Has absolutely nothing to do with the sword saint or it's rebirth. The only one reborn is a mage emperor who doesn't add anything to the story. He doesn't use his vast magical abilities in this new world even though others can somehow do similar magic. The tattoos are a interesting idea that get dropped half way through the book. It would have been a good twist to turn the MC from the prophecy of the dark one into the light. Too much mind magic going on. MC loses too much control and choice.

Don’t get this book!

The story in this book is so disappointing. It started so well and was going along pretty good, then it just spiraled downhill. The second book just made things confusing and convoluted. I tried very hard to like this story, But the main character just kept getting manipulated having his memories erased, and then it just ended, it was absolutely terrible. It was like they were building up for a grand finale for the end of the book, and then decide to just skip it. I can’t think of a more disgusting way to end a story. Some may consider this just a cliffhanger but when the entire story orbit around this event, and then you just leave it out. But even before the ending I was getting less and less interested in the whole story to the point that I had to force myself to the ending just so I could know how it ended but then it just ended it. I can’t think of a better way to convince me not to read any more books in the series. So now I am done with this series and I’m almost done with this author also. This is not the first series by this author I have found very disappointing. It is sad. This series had so much potential.

Disappointing

The whole book the MC is given hints to the deeper going ons in the world but continues to ignore everything flung and said to his face. The book was over all disappointing in the fact he doesn’t use the prior knowledge of his previous life because it’s immediately useless when reborn, but the most annoying thing is he ignores every little thing around him and pushes it to the side for later but never comes. It’s alright if behind the scenes the main evil doer pulls some strings but they literally do it in front of his face but he chooses to ignore them. He even ignores the prevalent history of the devil that every ones comes with common knowledge. This book just frustrated me with the pissed potential it had. Shame

Rebirth of something

As GrimReaper pointed out, this "absolutely nothing to do with the sword saint or it's rebirth. The only one reborn is a mage emperor who doesn't add anything to the story. "

I totally agree with this statement; to add to that the mage emperor is still a fking jerkoff and is still a arrogant prick. He keeps going on about oh I am going to be the best scholar ever, I am going to best the best at this yada yada. Yeah, no crap. Because you were resurrected into a body with a gold spoon shoved up your a$$ and the entire library is only available to "special people with magic and need to be in this clan/sect whatever". ITS A PAYWALL. So the average people do not have access to the same resources you do, at all. So you are competing other entitled gold spoon babies who have the same kind of resources in other clans.

Speaking of which, this world must be smaller than Rhode Island or Delaware because everyone can get some place in a day or so I guess.
