About this listen

When her father died, Lucy Mae Estmond inherited the family business. She has known all of her life that she will be in line to watch over the souls of the recently passed, keeping them safe from the Reapers.

The soul eating Reapers have been a plague upon the Earth, stealing souls and leaving the Keepers as the only thing that stands between heaven and hell. The factions despise each other and have warred for generations.

Then Lucy discovers an ancient legend predicting the arrival of the Chosen One, destined to bring forth an end to the Reapers. The surprises continue when she realizes she is that person. For Lucy, being the Chosen One doesn't change much. Fighting Reapers is just another day in the life of a Keeper.

When she meets Jack Walker, they both realize they have an insane, mutual attraction. Too bad that he's been sent to prevent the prophecy from coming true. His only mission: to kill the Chosen One.

Love this story!

Keeper vs. Reaper is another fave of mine! I had previously read all of this author's books, so I never doubted it would be. But...this world of keepers & reapers was completely new to me, & I seriously couldn't get enough! This is an adult paranormal tale full of mystery & angst as well as discovery & magic. I highly recommend it!
The audiobook version was a great way to enjoy this book all over again. I enjoyed listening to the narrator's voice too. She did this story justice. I look forward to hearing more from her as well.

Interesting story, not the best writing

The dialogue wasn't written too well. The characters rarely used contractions, which made them sound slightly formal, but then they'd also curse, so the contrast with what they were saying and how they were saying it made the conversations sound almost choppy. Also, all of the characters sounded the same. Not just the voices done by the reader, but also the way their voices were written, if that makes sense. It goes back to that diologue problem.

Oh those naughty Reapers

What did you love best about Keeper vs. Reaper?

Lucy and Jack have such an interesting love story. I love the way the Keepers and Reapers glow special colors in order to identify themselves. There were some good ghost conversations. The way Lucy and Jack are automatically attracted to each other works well in this story. There are several plots going on and it kept the book interesting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character is Jack. He tried SO hard to not fall in love with Lucy. His emotions and painful humor adds some fun and tension. I also like him because of the specific way he defies his Mother by not getting jobs done.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I thought the scene where Jack is standing in the dark graveyard - glowing and trying to hide under a hoodie with sunglasses. He was standing guard to protect Lucy. I love it when Lucy and Jack are in the graveyard making out - that made me laugh. I thought the scene in the ice cream shop where the keepers and a reaper accidentally bump into each other. This was a perfect way for Jack to meet Lucy's family.

Great Book! Strong Language

I really enjoyed this book. A lot of strong language, almost too much but still enjoyable. Not sure if this book is Ya or NA but it's definitely not fit for teenagers. I gave it 4 Stars because really other than the language I really liked it. It was well written for the most part and I loved the characters.

Nice and sometimes intriguing storyline

I don’t like to discredit a narrator’s hard work but I don’t like this voice for Lucy. Combined with what is written, this voice makes Lucy naive and whiny at times 🙈
And the dialogues aren’t as easily to follow as with other narrator’s so alas, I can’t score this audiobook higher than 3 stars. I have no doubt this narrator has books I would rate higher, this just feels like a mismatch unfortunately. But check out the sample, might be no problem for you, the sample does give a good example for the entire audiobook, I feel. Hope you’ll enjoy it!

I love the storyline but some things were less pleasing. The MC keeps on saying she’s an adult and her 6 older sibling, one best friend turned foster brother and father keep trying to protect her (obviously) but the MC not appreciating any of it.
Instead of yelling she’s an adult and sneaking behind their backs, I wish I’d have seen her communicating and working towards compromises.
But all that, which had my eyes a hefty workout with all the eyerolls, my neck doing overtime with the headshakes about the parts that could have been better and my sighs included, all that, didn’t stop me from reading on. So needless to say, I do love the storyline.
There are some really intriguing parts that don’t have the answers upon the end of this book (about a prophecy and just How it is about to unravel, since I can’t believe that it’s as black and white as a reaper being destined to wipe out the reapers, like the reapers believe is going to happen if the prophecy comes true).
Loved the believable parts about how a reaper and a keaper are trying to figure out just what it is that they are feeling and most importantly: why?

So there was a bit of dislike but not enough to not continue this series. Each book seems to have another MC (I think each of the 7 siblings gets their own book but don’t take my word for it, it’s just a hunch, not followed up on it). I am hoping her sister, the MC for book 2, will entice me more than Lucy did.

Great Storyline

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The genre isn't my preference so I found I was eager for the conclusion.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting were the characters. Malone Wright had a way of capturing my attention with each character and overall fast pace of the plot.

I was least interested in the particular descriptions of clothing and scenery and feel it could be much improved by taking out the multiple occurrences of the "f word" and detailed mentions of what each character wore.

Many aspects of the book foreshadowed the next one and have me curious about their importance in the next installment.

What does Kelsey Osborne bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Osborne was fantastic with her reading and expressions throughout this. Even with the amount of sex scenes and passion throughout she kept a great pace which kept my attention.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

The genre isn't my typical favourite so I think I would pass on the movie but would recommend it for fans of the genre.

Any additional comments?

The amount of vulgarity was really unexpected and had me hesitate on listening to the entire book. Although I'm not against it if the character feels the need to say it occasionally I found it was too common and took away from the overall story.

Too much profanity!

This book could be so much more than it is. If you take out f**k and the rest of the swearing you have 1/2 of a book. Very disappointing.
