About this listen

Kandace Alexander

The work ethic I learned at my mother’s knee propelled me to finish a four-year finance degree in three. This summer was supposed to be my pre-graduation reward, doing nothing but catching up with all the fun my friends had while my nose was to the academic grindstone.

Instead, I’ve been guilted into helping out with the family’s cleaning business. At least there’s a consolation prize. My client is fabulously successful, insanely rich Chadwick St. Clair. We have sort of a history. As a pigtailed kid, I lived to torment him. When I grew old enough to notice his hard-as-steel body, warm eyes, and gentle voice that talked me through some hard times, I crushed on him. Hard.

My first glimpse of him in three years proves nothing has changed. He still makes my mouth water, my hands shake. But our history - and his reputation as a playboy with broken hearts from New Orleans to DC - isn’t the only thing standing between us. And a summer of breathless kisses and addictive encounters may not be enough to build a lasting love.

This is a stand-alone BWWM romance novel.

Cute, short, relaxing

This story is like a summer’s day with a brief rainstorm in the afternoon and more sunshine after.

Good read but..

So the story line is good, but I just can not with Lacy Laurel's southern accent 😒. I had to stop in the middle of the book because I couldn't take listening to her anymore. However Connor Crais was amazing. This is my first time ever reading Michelle Karise writing and she's amazing as well.

Cute story

This was an interesting storyline; displayed familiar family dynamics I’m sure we all can relate to one way or the other. Some parts of this book made me laugh out loud. Lacy has the voice of a comedian and made it even funnier. Narrators were good. I enjoyed this book.

Connor Crais' Southern accent was hot AF!

I absolutely loved this story. Having been friends since they were much younger (Kandace's mother worked in the Chadwick household in New Orleans), and growing up in much different circles, Chadwick and Kandace haven't seen each other since she left for college in Florida three years prior. When she sees Chadwick while cleaning his home, she's shocked to see a mature...and hot AF Chadwick. When he sees Kandace, there's something primal he feels about her. Both are attracted to each other, but Kandace doesn't think her mother will react positively about them being together. So, they decide to keep their budding romance a secret. But secrets have a way of getting discovered at the worst possible times. No spoilers, but this is where the story really gets good. There's the perceived issue of race, status, past hurts that have to be addressed, and Michelle Karise tells a great and real story here. This was my first book by her, but certainly won't be my last.

I had the pleasure of enjoying the audiobook of this story, narrated by Connor Crais and Lacy Laurel. When I tell you Connor nailed the Southern Chadwick, believe it! He's so talented and well trained, we are all the better for it hearing ALL the accents he does flawlessly. Lacy's Southern lady was spot on and she and Connor complemented each other beautifully. They just brought out the story in such vivid color.

Cute but!!!!

Both narrators do a horrible job of trying to talk in the voice of the opposite sex, it makes you cringe when you’re listening to it

Loved the story...

The story and the writing by Michelle Karise was great. Loved the concept and how Kandi and Chadwick's love evolved.

Now, the narration. This is where I struggled with listening to the story. This takes place in New Orleans, so the characters have some southern/creole accent. Lacy Laurel, the female narrator was hard to listen to. Her "southern" accent felt like she was trying too hard and her voice sounded like she had a breathy cold. I always try to listen with an open mind and keep the speed to normal, but I found myself speeding up her chapters.

As for Connor Crais, who played the main male character, Chadwick, he was perfect! His southern drawl was swoon-worthy and the way he changes his voice to play the different male characters were superb! I think Connor is the one that got me through the book and finished it.

I think I would have enjoyed this more if Michelle had picked a different female narrator to voice Kandi.

I love his Voice!

So now I have a new favorite voice to listen out for Connor Crais voice is so deep and sexy! Don’t really care for his voice when tries to do the women voices but that just Solidifies that he is ALL man.

The book was a really nice HEA. I Love the Epilogue and like the fact that it had both views in it. ( Kandi and Chadwick) The story in my opinion was well developed and has a beautiful ending. I do wish there was a bit of more drama in the bachelor side of Chadwicks life before him and Kandi got married. And part of me do wish Kandi could have been a lil bit more promiscuous. With a lil bit more of detailed sex scenes. But that’s just the hoe in me. 🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️ lol Good Job Michelle. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next.
