About this listen

The powerful second book in the New York Times bestselling Testing trilogy.

In the series debut The Testing, sixteen-year-old Cia Vale was chosen by the United Commonwealth government as one of the best and brightest graduates of all the colonies—a promising leader in the effort to revitalize postwar civilization. In Independent Study, Cia is a freshman at the University in Tosu City with her hometown sweetheart, Tomas.

Though the government has tried to erase her memory of the brutal horrors of The Testing, Cia remembers. Her attempts to expose the ugly truth behind the government’s murderous programs put her—and her loved ones—in a world of danger. But the future of the Commonwealth depends on her.

The Testing is a chilling and devious dystopian thriller that all fans of The Hunger Games will simply devour. Joelle Charbonneau writes with guts and nerve but also great compassion and heart. Highly recommended.”—Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author of Rot & Ruin and Flesh & Bone

one of my favorite series this far

"Independent Study" by Joelle Charbonneau plunges readers back into the treacherous world of the United Commonwealth, where Cia Vale and her fellow Testing candidates face even more dangerous challenges. This sequel to "The Testing" ramps up the tension and intrigue as Cia navigates the complexities of University life in Tosu City.
While the Testing may be over, the competition is far from finished. Cia quickly realizes that the idyllic facade of the University hides a darker reality, and she must rely on her wits and instincts to survive. Charbonneau expertly crafts a suspenseful narrative filled with shifting alliances, hidden agendas, and shocking betrayals.
"Independent Study" delves deeper into the moral dilemmas and ethical questions introduced in the first book, forcing Cia to confront difficult choices and question everything she thought she knew. Prepare for a thrilling ride that will leave you eager to uncover the truth alongside Cia and her friends.
If you enjoyed "The Testing," "Independent Study" is a must-read that will leave you breathlessly anticipating the final installment in the trilogy.

The description of all of the details were very easy to imagine.

Cant wait to see what happens in the graduation day. The testing are my favorite dystopian books.

Great story better performance than the Testing

Casey's performance was better this time around. She only slipped and said Thomas once. I'm still not sure now these mistakes are getting through.

100% pick this narrator!!!

Do not think twice about it - pick this narrator! The story is so much more dynamic, engaging, and fun to listen to. The story is exactly the same just a WAY better experience. I listened to the first book with the other narrator even though she received poor reviews and I now wish I had listened to that one with this narrator. I will be listening to the third book with this narrator, no doubt!
