About this listen
Moving house has become a way of life for 15-year-old Isobel Miller. Her father is an Army Major; her mother, a middle aged, pregnant, chain smoking alcoholic. But the move to the village of Langham could be the straw that broke the camel's back. To the truculent teenager it might as well have been to Timbuktu. Isobel is resentful of the baby, angry with her mother for dragging her away from civilization to live in a village that has no street lighting, let alone any decent shops.
The only light in her miserable existence is her grandfather, story-teller elite, her saviour. And when one of his macabre tales is mentioned in the local paper, Isobel is drawn into the depths of evil and devil worship. Her world, and that of everyone around her, turns upside down. The cause? A mysterious book, an omen, which once opened and read starts a cataclysmic chain of events, and their lives are filled with tragedy and disaster. Salvation comes in the guise of three other teenagers - Peter, Oswald, and Ariel - and the four form a bond so strong nothing can tear apart - nothing except maybe the devil himself!
May be listened to as a standalone.
Second Edition. New and improved sound quality.

A beautiful mix of tech, magic and religion. Great
Really enjoyed the book it had a little bit of everything. Technology mixed with religion and magic. Blended very well together along with carnage and a mix of emotions ranging from sadness and deceit to happiness and comradery. E.M.G pulls at your heart strings with a possible human extinction and the emotions to go with it. Well written and narrated. Overall a great experience.

DARK AND FASCINATING!
This was a very dark and very imaginative audiobook. A girl and her family (Army family) move to the country, much to Isobel's disgust. How can a girl such as she live in a place like this? Then, it really gets crazy! There's a book that could literally cause the world's destruction by the devil himself. And it does. And it sucks. There's a lot going on, all kinds of dark and mysterious creatures are in play, and everything works well together as the author creates a fantastic and dark world. Isobel teams up with three others who must take action to save the world. There are evil foes in their way, and will stop at nothing to destroy them, and the world.
Writing and narration were great!!! Really liked it, and was drawn into the story effortlessly and didn't let me go until the end. Very complicated, very dark, gripping!
I knew going in there were "sound issues," and didn't hold that against the book itself.
I'm a fan.

Great story, very entertaining
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed the story and narration. I found it entertaining and will look for more from this author and narrator. On a side note, the narrator was gracious enough to address a question that I had with the book and helped me to discover the problem was on my end and was very eager to help get it rectified.

it was very hard for me because
I will start and say that the story is very good extraordinary really even yeah you had the lot of dark moments but as expected it's part of the genre I did have a little problem and maybe it's just me I don't know I even thought to write to audible about a problem but the audio disables were low it's like you had to get a very high pick on the headphones to listen to the words and the nurture was good it's only the level of sound I did enjoy the book very much in the car it was a bit of a struggle to listen to this book but on the headphones it was good enough but overall the story itself was incredible

Solid Creepy Tale
Our main character is a teenager who has to grow up in a hurry as she joins with a group of other young people who find they need to fight for the fate of the earth against an oncoming apocalypse caused by evil men utilizing a book of dubious origins. As they go deeper they find horrific creatures from the worlds of nightmare, and while things get incredibly dark at times they still don't lose hope. And, perhaps most importantly, it never strays from being entertaining.
The narration is ok, I've listened to another volume that didn't bother me too much, and the narrator has a great voice. I hope that the quality can be improved a little such that others can enjoy listening to this story easier.

Liked the Premise but Execution Fell Short for Me
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.
This is one book in the series Cathedral Chronicles. It involves a 15-year-old Isobel, who has moved to a new town - that is small and has nothing going on. But fairly quickly, she joins a group to fight an oncoming acopalypse caused by a book written by the Devil. This is geared towards a YA audience but there is enough here to keep adults interested. I liked the premise but I just didn't love the execution as a lot happens; there are a lot of characters; I did not really connect with any of the characters; and there are a lot of loose ends...
Several reviewers noted a problem with the audio. I did not experience the "echoey" or "tin can," although I felt the volume was a little low for me to listen in my car. I really liked the narrator, Clive Johnson. I would happily listen to another book narrated by him. He has a good tone and pace.

A Dark Adventure
If I had to describe this series I would say its like a His Dark Materials/Chronicles of Narnia type fantasy series mixed with a large dash of horror. The voice acting by Clive Johnson was great although a bit fast for my taste. Even with that criticism in mind and thinking over the experience I think it added to the macabre horror ambiance. In short, this book is a exceptional macabre fantasy that is very well written and a solid start to a series that sucks you in.

Good story
The story was good but there were a few things that reminded me of other books and stories I’ve read before. That is not necessarily a bad thing.
I love the time travel aspects.
I am interested in the next part of this story!
Narration by Clive Johnson was excellent.
