Publisher's summary

Manipulation is the name of the game.

Captain Jamie Callahan is running out of time in his efforts to outsmart an enemy metahuman. His father’s presidential campaign is ramping up, and Jamie’s top secret identity as a metahuman himself is at risk of being revealed by the enemy, to say nothing of his secret relationship with Staff Sergeant Kyle Brannigan.

As Alpha Team’s long-running mission gets derailed in the worst way possible, Staff Sergeant Alexei Dvorkin discovers the enemy is playing for keeps, and neither he nor Agent Sean Delaney are in any position to escape what’s in store for them.

But the other side has made one mistake that Jamie, Alexei, and Alpha Team are more than willing to exploit—you don’t mess with family unless you want to get hurt.

My heart is in pieces! 😭❤️‍🩹💔 I loved it!

Once again, another incredible work by Hailey Turner, expertly narrated by Greg Boudreaux 👏 👏👏 Out of the first four books this one is my absolute favorite!!! The love and the tension and the action and the torture and the loss... all of it is meticulously melded together with amazing balance that just sings to me as a reader. The characters Jamie, Kyle, Alexei and Sean are so well written and simply break my heart over and over. The way Turner writes how they exercise their unyielding (and sometimes yeidling) endurance gives me strength. I can't wait to see what happens next. Onto book five of the Metahuman Files!!!

Spectacular story-line with awesome narration!

Spectacular story-line with awesome narration!

I love this series and this book hit harder than i expected. It was heartbreaking at times, often suspenseful and always a compelling story-line.

Jamie and Kyle, and Alexei and Sean are impacted and changed. Their strength and love will carry them through but their is a heavy cost. There are lots of special moments for both of our couples and you will want to listen and enjoy their time together.

i am so looking forward to the book where we can truly get the bad guys!

Fantastic and heart wrenching

This is an amazing continuation to the series. However, do not ignore the trigger warnings about on page torture. It is brutal and horrible, both physically and mentally.

In this story we get to follow not only Jamie and Kyle, but also Aleksei and Sean. I love the contradictions in their relationships and their sexy times.

Jamie's father is on the campaign trail, and is making an a$$ of himself. Jamie and Kyle have been working their case so long, and Jamie is stuck with his family. However, when Sean's past comes back to pay a cruel visit, Kyle heads back to try to save his brother and Sean.

I'm not even going to describe what Sean and Alexei are put through during their kidnapping. It is enough to say that PTSD and a fear of losing each other's love are some of the many outcomes.

Jamie was on his way to help his team, but he was caught off guard by the enemy. It turned out that his decision had not surprised the precog, and he was supposed to pay the price. Oh, there's also a new suppressor in town, but that's for another story.

Suicide splice bombers have been set in place in Boston, and things get bad. Jamie and his team decide the decent thing to do is more important than getting in trouble by that point. They break the rules to help with the fallout. Then, they must deal with their own roles in helping the victims.

This is a great listen, but it's quite dark at times. I still loved it very much.

I thought the narrator did a great job. The characters are well differentiated and his pacing was smooth.

In The Blood, Metahumans 4

OMG. THIS BOOK...... THIS WHOLE FREAKING SERIES... OMG..
Why can we only give 5 Stars.... This book deserves so much more...

Going into this one you have to have previously read and/or listened to the first three books in order to follow the story and not be completely lost as to what is happening and who all the characters are. This is not a standalone book in any way.

This was a crazy wild ride I did not want to get off of. I was on the edge of my seat. Biting my nails nervous about what was happening every step of the way and I loved every minute of it. No joke I really felt like I was put through the ringer with this book and forced to experience all the feelings whether I wanted to or not, Hailey really out-did herself with this one..

I love the entire team of Metahumans but Jamie & Kyle and Sean & Alexi are both at the top of my favorite couples list and I loved getting another look into all of their lives. But man, some parts of this book and parts of what happened when things got extreme were really hard to hear. I think this book was made so much more intense when listening to the narrator, Greg Boudreaux. He gives so much emotion and depth to each and every character that it is just enthralling and impressive to hear. All his accents and voices are on point and perfect in every part of this book. He really did an amazing job bringing this book and all the characters to life, I really felt like I was right there in the book with these characters. <- Which is exactly how you should feel. Completely pulled in and captured by the story. This was So Freaking Good, and I really don't think that could be said enough.

The author tore my heart out & stomped all over it

Okay at one point Ms Turner I was going to tell you how much I totally disliked you, okay I could have called you some really nasty names, because of what you did. But then that ending, how can one stay mad at you after reading that. This was a majorly rough one. What a couple of our heroes went through was absolutely brutal. And the one behind it got what he deserved. Okay I would have liked to have tortured him for a long time before the big finale, but it was satisfying. This One has such major feels. My cat was laying next to me looking at me like, stupid human why is there water running down your face. Yes it was ugly crying. There were times that I couldn’t catch my breath. Jamie’s father, boy he needs some brains beaten into him. I hate when he is around. I loved that we spent quality one on one time with both of our couples, the sexy times were majorly hawt!!!! I cannot wait for then next book in the series. I also can’t wait for the fraternization to be changed so they can be seen out together. They deserve it. If you have read the first three books in the series yet, stop don’t read this one. They need to be read in order. Well done Ms Turner, keep up the amazing job!

OMG the bad things that happened re-tore me up. Greg Boudreaux did an absolutely amazing job narrating this book.

What a wild and emotional ride!!!

Listened to audio 5* narration 4* story

Another great addition to this series. My favorite, so far. The twists and turns to kept me guessing, and as a lover of high-action scenes I was not disappointed. As usual it's full of fast-paced action, betrayal, assassinations, smoking hot lovin, friendship, and loyalty.

However, I was not prepared for the heart wrenching torture and what they endured during recovery. My heart went out to these two and this families.

But, we get the best thanksgiving...ever! I loved it...so exciting and fun.

Astounding but hard to listen to in places

This is a powerful story for so many reasons. The mission that went sideways in so many ways, the rising tension between Jamie Callaghan, leader of the MDF Alpha Team, and his father, the horror of the terrorist attacks in Boston...everything is portentous and too real in the world Hailey Turner has been building over the course of this series. The metahumans in Jamie's team are confronted with increasingly more difficult and -- thanks to Stanislav, the precog metahuman in the enemy camp -- unexpected challenges as they work to complete their mission. That the men were able to overcome, despite everything that happens to them, and find their way back to their lovers, is miraculous.

The pain in this story is overwhelming, and I need to say that upfront. It was hard to listen to and finishing the story took much longer than I had expected. I found myself supremely angry that the author chose to present so MUCH of the actual in-the-room torture that Alexei and Sean suffered at the hands of the Irish terrorist Killian. I understand the need for her to ensure that her readers fully appreciate and believe in the reality of the horrors the men had to endure, but to my ears, it seemed like overkill. I was not a fan of those parts of the story at all.

Greg Boudreaux does a great job of evoking the varying emotional statuses of the men whose journey we follow in this story. I enjoyed this book, probably more because of his performance than I would have had I had to read it on my own. Despite the awful agony of listening to some parts of it, his rendition made it easier to bear. Had I had to read those sections on my own, I would probably have skipped over them.

The most emotional book in the series so far

This one had me crying multiple times and by the end crying happy tears. I definitely could have done without the torture scenes getting into so much detail I had to skip ahead several times it was so bad. I thought about lowering the rating because of that, but just couldn't the book was too good and the ending made up for it.
