About this listen

Deception. Death. A deal with the devil.

When Dr. Nathan Frost, a lecturer in German literature at Oxford University, is invited to a lavish party at the country house of a wealthy businessman, he knows there'll be a price to pay. After all, as an expert on the legend of Faust and Mephistopheles, he can recognize a deal with the devil easily enough. But even he's not expecting such a sinister end to the evening.

Called to investigate a suspicious death at a country house, Detective Inspector Bridget Hart is surprised to find a government minister among the party guests. Her team must navigate powerful interests to find the truth. But in a world of favors, backhanders, and corruption, nothing is as it seems and nobody can be trusted.

I have listened to all the books up to this point in the series. The storyline is a bit predictable and maybe even a little anticlimactic. That being said, the narrator is wonderful and pleasant to listen to. She captures the characters personality perfectly and it makes the series easy to love.

The characters are great

I love this series. Characters are well developed, narration excellent and Oxford University setting a bonus! I’m an academic in US, and find the contrasts and history fascinating.

Great characters, plot and setting!

Slight but rather obvious missteps at times. However I really enjoy this author! It will not allow me to post unless I have fifteen words. What’s that about?

Good mystery

I enjoyed visiting Oxford and like to relive a bit of experience there while I garden. The author and narrator give me a good listen.

Kept me guessing and easy to follow

I feel like I know each character in person and that I am walking around Oxford in every twist. So good!

One book is better than the other

great story; great mystery. I would prefer more clues available to the reader. still, very good

whodunit

Stop wasting storyline with back history. The lost of her sister and breakup of her marriage could be done in a prologue instead of her constant whining for a woman of her age and responsible job.

Whining

OK I do love the book. But I picked the killer fast. Always satisfying when I do. Love the series

Excellent

Once more she finds herself in an Oxford College murder. A masked party, a drugged tutor, a member of Parliament and an unscrupulous businessman all play a part in this new installment!

Bridget is at it again!

This is becoming a favorite series. Oxford is a great location for murders as Morse proved.

Bridget and her team are great characters. A murder at a masked party and a university lecturer the apparent suspect set in motion an interesting story. It rarely happens but I guessed the culprit and then watched as the police worked it out.

The narration is great. I’m glad there are more books in this series.

Book 4 in a good series
