Publisher's summary

One of America's most original comedic voices delivers a darkly funny, wryly observed, and emotionally raw account of her year of death, cancer, and epiphany.

In the span of four months in 2012, Tig Notaro was hospitalized for a debilitating intestinal disease called C. diff, her mother unexpectedly died, she went through a breakup, and then she was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer. Hit with this devastating barrage, Tig took her grief onstage. Days after receiving her cancer diagnosis, she broke new comedic ground, opening an unvarnished set with the words, "Good evening. Hello. I have cancer. How are you? Hi, how are you? Is everybody having a good time? I have cancer." The set went viral instantly and was ultimately released as Tig's sophomore album, Live, which sold 100,000 units in just six weeks and was later nominated for a Grammy.

Now the wildly popular star takes stock of that no good, very bad year - a difficult yet astonishing period in which tragedy turned into absurdity and despair transformed into joy. An inspired combination of the deadpan silliness of her comedy and the openhearted vulnerability that has emerged in the wake of that dire time, I'm Just a Person is a moving and often hilarious look at this very brave, very funny woman's journey into the darkness and her thrilling return from it.

It's Just Tig

If you're at all familiar with the public Tig Notaro, this reading will feel like the glimpse of her last couple of years of life, as if you're sitting with her at a long fireside chat. She's telling the details she wants to share at her pace and with her words. I'm thankful that she decided to open up a little more and share with those of us that have felt a kinship to her. I'm glad she seems to be walking on air, and I hope she gets to enjoys the birdhouse of life, quietly, with her tiny suitcases and wranglers. Blastronaut out.

Tig’s insights and witty delivery make her just a lovely person

Obscure LOL moment: when young Tig told her friend, “my father has a mustache!” When that assertion failed to elicit a response: “perhaps she didn’t hear me.” I love One Mississippi and I loved learning more about Tig’s struggle and triumph. Bravo!

An honesty I needed to hear

This book describes humanity, I loved it.

And now audible requires four more review words.

Better as an audio book.

I had been a fan of Tig Notaro's comedy and career before, and was as casually familiar with her story as, I'm sure, many of her fans are. Listening to this audio book, however, demonstrated not only what she has been through, but what she has learned. How great it was to hear it in her own voice.

Courage

Although I am not very familiar with Tig i enjoyed this listen. She shows lots of perseverance in a challenging life. I plan to look for past performances.
I think it’s best when the author performs their own autobiography and she did an excellent job.

I’m a fan

I loved hearing Tig tell her story. She gave her account in an engaging way… engaging in the semi-monotone delivery she gives her stand up, which I love.

She gave well placed insights, hilarious comments and fascinating details. I love you, Tig!!

Love Tig so much

I didn’t know how gravely ill she was years ago. I’m so glad she pulled thru. She is so hilarious. I adore Tig!

Laughter to Tears

This is one of those books you just don't want to end. Having Tig be the narrator makes you feel like you were sitting in a room with her while she takes you through the highs and lows of her life. Believe me, she has some very low lows, and some great highs. I've been a Tig fan for quite awhile, now I'm a Tig fan that really knows and loves her.
