About this listen

If you knew love would hurt you, would you fall? If you knew love would leave you, would you let it go? If you knew love could never be, would you try? From best-selling author Randi Cooley Wilson comes a love story about heartbreak, second chances, and letting go. The ifs that linger in this novel will break your heart and stay with you long after the final chapter.

Emerson Shaw thought she’d left her old life behind her, but when she returns home for her best friend’s wedding, she has no idea her past is waiting to reclaim her.

Lincoln Daniels never wanted to find love. But when he met straight-laced Emerson, he fell. Hard. The only thing they seemed to have in common was an undeniable mutual attraction, but from the moment he laid eyes on her, there was something about her that called to him. Until he lost her.

Just when Emerson is finally ready to let go and stop existing in a past full of pain and regret, Lincoln returns, turning her life upside down. What begins as a tentative friendship quickly escalates, and the two soon realize that all the ifs lingering between them no longer matter.

What happens when two broken people meet, fall in love, and realize they can never be? What happens when all the what ifs no longer make sense? If you knew your heart would break, would you still fall?

This book is intended for mature audiences.

This novel had all the feels

This story took me back to my college days when everything was so new and exciting, and relationships were intense and all-consuming. I could totally relate to all of the characters.

Emerson is determined to break away from her overbearing family and make something of her life that she wants. However, when she meets Lincoln, the attraction is off the rails.

He's a hot-as-sin bad boy, and she's trying to figure out who she is in a world that isn't easy to navigate. When the sparks fly between them, it changes both their worlds, and not all of it is good.

The angst and tension between the main characters is gripping, and even as they make mistakes that can only be seen from the outside, I found myself rooting for them. My emotions were shaken by the rollercoaster ride this story took me on, and it wouldn't let me go until the very end. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

if you're looking for a great ending this book doesn't have it is there a good ending yeah but did they get married do they have kids there's no great closure I hate with the short books that they don't go the extra paragraph and say 5 years down the line they get married two years down the line they have cute twins or something.

Good story line but...

The narrator read too fast throughout this book which made it sound kind of rushed. You do have the option to slow down the speed, however when you do it sounds very off and not natural.

What if...

It took me a little while...In my opinion, I found in the beginning of the book I lacked the connection and empathy for the two main characters. I really struggled to feel the chemistry between Emerson Shaw a trust fund girl, and a boy from the wrong side of the tracks, Lincoln Daniels.

Half way through the story, I found myself cheering them on! I couldn't believe how I related to the relationship denial, the manipulation and sabotage others can put on a couple in a new relationship both trying to find footing.. Do you take the chance to make it work and risk ruining someones life or do you sacrifice yourself for a better future without them.

Love can be a bumpy road - and nothing is guarantied.

Grace Grant does a fantastic job articulating the ups and downs of trying to make a relationship work. Christian Fox only narrates the epilogue, which is a bit disappointing as his voice is nice and smooth and ideal for Lincoln's character.

Wish There Was More Christian Fox Narrating

I simply adore Christian Fox's voice, and I was supremely disappointed that he only narrates the epilogue. For this reason alone, I dinged it 1 star.

The story is a good one. It'll definitely take you on a ride full of angst, giddiness, hopefulness, sadness, desire, and frustration... you know, everything your first love had you feel. The title is good; it is simplistic enough to catch one's eye but mysterious enough to leave you hoping Emerson and Lincoln get it together, which is achingly wonderfully drawn out to the very last chapters.

I am not disappointed that I used a credit to get this book, and I don't think you will be either, as long as you know from the beginning that you'll only be hearing Grace Grant's narration for 99.5% of the story.

Enjoyable

I finished this in two sittings. if, that says it all. There are so many what if's. So much, and so little can screw with your life at any given time. Heartbreak, so much hurting!

Very Angst story!

A very angst book! I really can’t say romance I felt more like lust to me. The narrators are amazing they truly brought the story to life. I will say the story was interesting totally different than I expected. Why only 3 stars well unfortunately with all the cheating going on I couldn’t see how either heroine or hero could be in love with each other. Plus I wanted to know them more. 3/5 stars

What if? Friends to Lovers and Second Chances!

My first time reading this authors work and I definitely enjoyed it. I liked the plot and loved Lincoln!! This book is told from Emerson’s point of view and Grace Grant did a good job with the narration. Be prepared, you only get to hear Christian Fox in the epilogue when he speaks on Lincoln’s point of view. That was the only thing that I didn’t like. I originally purchased the audiobook because I love Christian Fox and was expecting dual POV but nevertheless, I still devoured this audiobook and would recommend to readers who love a second chance romance.

Enjoyed the book but ...

I really enjoyed this book however I can’t help but feel deceived I always prefer narration from both POV with separate narrators and while this book does have a female and male take the males is only the epilogue. I just kept waiting for it to switch over.
