About this listen

Instant Wall Street Journal Best Seller!

You don't need to be Ivy League educated, have money, be creative, or even have an idea to get rich. You just need to be willing to break the rules.

At 19, I founded a software company with $119 in my bank account. Five years later, it was valued at $10.5 million. I don't consider myself exceptionally brilliant. I just realized something few people know: You don't need lots of money or an original idea to get really rich.

Now, I make more than $100,000 in passive income every month, while also running my own private equity firm and hosting The Top Entrepreneurs podcast, which has more than 10 million downloads. This book will show you how I went from college dropout to member of the New Rich.

It's time to forget your grandfather's advice. I'll teach you how to be a modern opportunist - investor, entrepreneur, or side hustler - by breaking these four golden rules of the old guard:

  1. Focus on one skill: Wrong. Don't cultivate one great skill to get ahead. In today's business world, success goes to the multitaskers.
  2. Be unique: Wrong. The way to get rich is not by launching a new idea but by aggressively copying others and then adding your own twist.
  3. Focus on one goal: Wrong. Focus instead on creating a system to produce the outcome you want, not just once, but over and over again.
  4. Appeal to the masses: Wrong. The masses are broke ($4k average net worth in America?). Let others cut a trail through the jungle so you can peacefully walk in and capitalize on their hard work.

By rejecting these defunct rules and following my unconventional path, you can copy other people's ideas shamelessly, bootstrap a start-up with almost no funding, invest in small local businesses for huge payoffs, and reap all the benefits.

Critic reviews

"Nathan challenges the old-school business rules most entrepreneurs take for gospel and teaches...how he used a totally different set of rules to build a fortune. Refreshing to see an author who is actually doing what he writes, and then sharing his real tactics. No BS 'theory', this book is for people who take action." (Tucker Max, CEO of Book in a Box and author of I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell)

"Just finished. That was damn good. I usually zip through books, but this one just kept sucking me in. I like that it was full of real stories with screenshots." (Andrew Warner, creator of Mixergy)

"I’m still in the glass-eating phase of my career, so I’m eager to copy others’ maps. This book is giving me loads of new ideas." (Sean Langhi, first-time founder)

Awesome content and also narrated by author

This book is packed with tons of tools and ideas to make money, but businesses, generate wealth. Nathan is an impressive man of our times. It’s also commendable that he narrated his own book, which not many people do. You can hear his passion for the topic of generating wealth and know that he is genuinely interested in helping others grow.

This book is for those who want to get out of old thinking patterns and learn what it really takes to build wealth. If you e read the 4 hour work week, I think this book is what it would look like if written today.

You'll enjoy this book if you hate hype

This book is remarkable.

I've actually taken the time to implement just one of the strategies the same day of purchasing the audio book.

"Starbucks Process for Systems Testing"

I generated results the same day!

Once I got my hands on the hard cover version of the book the following day. I've taken the time review the screenshot and all I can say is this book is better than many $2000.00 online courses . . .

Thank you Nathan for your generosity

I feel like I owe this guy more money after listening!

I read a lot of business books and most of them usually focuses more on the author’s philosophy than actual practical advice.

This book is not one of them! It literally got annoying having to pause and play so many times in order to take notes. That’s a good problem to have folks.

Insightful read, Highly recommended.

This book was chalked full of great tips and actionable details that many similiar books are lacking. The author gives many examples and tips on practical advise and tips he used to help him build wealth in a variety of income streams. The one critical point I can say I wish was more detail oriented was that I wish the section on deal flow in acquiring small businesses went further in depth to help the reader have some more ideas to work with for this strategy. The author mentioned a few, but mostly kept to his strengths which was software businesses. It would have been interesting to get some more ideas on acquiring small businesses that have hard assets and are not inherently internet based businesses. Overall it was an excellent book and the author did very well in including tips for actionable strategies to pursue today as opposed to the normal for these type of books that includes a lot of discussion on soft ideas such as following your passion. I highly recommend the book to individuals who are interested in diversifying their income streams starting from little to no personal capital.

*I'm already reading it a 2nd time through and find myself flipping through it to find the email screenshots he used to get deals closed so I can use them as templates.

Unique, actionable advice that anyone can follow.

Engaging, informative, & actionable - this book is phenomenal. Really liked the personal insights Nathan gave into his business dealings. Makes you feel like you had a front row seat and now have the experience to go out and do it yourself. When I heard it recommended as “the new four hour work week,” I had high expectations; it didn’t disappoint. Thanks, Nathan - please keep publishing. Go Hokies!
