Publisher's summary

Cursed. Broken. Possibly Insane.

Nyx was born Hollow. An empty vessel in a world of spirits. Normally, that was a death sentence, yet somehow he survived. He's always been stubborn like that.

He's also always been a bit crazy. Which is why, in another life, he did something reckless. He sent himself a message—his memories. Threw them into the Flow from which all spirits return.

Besides, Nyx believed in asking hard questions. Like, was reincarnation real? Would this half-ass plan actually work? And if it did, could his life really get any worse?

Turns out…it could.

What to expect:

A different sort of reincarnation story—one that isn't so easy. A crazy protagonist. Slow burn to OP power progression. Loot-based skill modification system. Infused spirit items. Crafting. Bromance. Couple's therapy. Murder Babies. Oh, and an interdimensional death wagon. Honestly, reincarnation never looked so crazy.

it ain't no ford ranger (AO) but it'll do.

little sketch at first, took me a good minute to get used to this narration but when you finally give in to the madness... it ain't half bad.

Interesting fantasy world, but…

This story is most likely to be at the top of a list belonging to a 8-13 year old boy. The rat carnage gets very tedious for those listeners from other age groups. After all, how many ways can you say, “decapitation, blood spray and pools of blood” without repeating yourself?

It’s an imaginative world, stocked with some very interesting characters and the action is propelled by a strange type of magic. And,
RATS, lots and lots of rats. Plus an overabundance of blood, entrails, severed limbs, lopped off heads, and rat stakes.

But, ahhh, the characters
inhabiting this realm! Led by the manic maniac protagonist, Nyx, who is involved in a bromance with an Oedipal frenemy figure
while raising a litter of rattie murder babies and going through couple’s counseling.
Add in an enormous bovine-man creature, Horace, and the love-of-his-life, Mylady; Plus Nyx’s gone-to-the-dark side sister; a cosmic
inter-dimensional death wagon driver/merchant, an assorted cast of oddball villagers, and, RATS, lots and lots of rats.
By the end, which is a l-o-n-g
time coming, you meet an undercharacterized little girl (?) who rules them all (?).

Splat. The listener/reader, as well as the author and narrator, fall flat in exhaustion, happy that it’s finally over.

But, the narrator’s perfect voice still rings in your head to make you smile in rememberence of those strangely odd characters.

Noah Ward gets gold stars across the board for creative voices, endurance, manic energy and pure entertainment!

All in all it’s a memorable
experience.

So much fun, and so much funny.

It's like listening to my mind when I haven't slept for 3 days straight, and have had an accidental case of homicidal rage and narcissism show up. I haven't laughed this much while listening to a book in quite some time. I'll freely admit that I am a bit unhinged myself, so I may empathize with Nyx more than is healthy. That being said I truly believe this story was well written, the pacing, the progressive slip further into madness, and the depth of the different characters really drew me in. None of that would have made this audio book a ten in my mind without the wonderful narration, Noah Ward embraced the crazy fun and joy of "therapy". I can't wait for the next audio book, and I hope the next one can live up to the fun I had listening to the first

The Narrator Made this book for me

honestly going through random titles to find one I was stuck between 2 and I chose this one strictly because the narrator sounded more entertaining. OH BOY that was an understatement. Not only does he remind me of a Jeff Hays or Nick Podehl, he really captured the absolute insanity of the main character. The way this was performed I even doubt one of the greats could've pulled it off better. Looking forward for more

perfect little insanity

This is an interesting stories of descending into madness with a twist. I thought this was a fascinating change in writing style that left me chuckling more than I have in a while. The MC is scattered, loses track of his thoughts frequently, has to make "hard decisions," and is insane. He is not paranoid though. Overall, I really enjoyed this book; it isn't like AO, but sometimes that is a good thing.

Surprisingly Good

It took a little bit to get used to, but once that happened, what a surprisingly good (and insane) story. Worth the credit.

Great story, awesome performance.

Another complex world created by Mr. Bagwell brought not only to life, but exploded into a crazy, fun filled ride by Noah Ward!

Rough performance

The story is entertaining, but the narrator had a very slow performance. I don't normally like to speed up audio books, but I felt I needed to to get through this title.

I would not let this author/lawyer represent me. He is too weird.

The author's MC seems to have way too many problem to be likeable. I do begrudgingly admit that I share the author's sense of humor. (which is very juvenile)

While I really like the author's work, I wonder if he is a good lawyer. Would I let him to represent me based on his writing? No. No way Jose. He is all over the place. Unless the case involves plumbing issues, I would look for other lawyer.

When does the second book come out?

Slow start

Hold strong. The ranting and raving can strain you at first but it’s worth the build.
