Publisher's summary

A cowboy returning to his hometown - and the best friend he left a dozen years before. She's divorced with a child now...can they build a family and find their happily ever after?

Graham Whittaker returns to Coral Canyon a few days after Christmas - after the death of his father. He's just found out his longtime girlfriend in Seattle has been cheating on him, and while Coral Canyon isn't his first choice of where to live, it's certainly the friendliest.

He takes over the energy company his dad built from the ground up and buys a high-end lodge to live in - only a mile from the home of his once-best friend, Laney McAllister. Laney returned to her family ranch after college, but her husband wasn't cut out for the country lifestyle on the land at the base of the Grand Teton National Forest. He left Laney and their daughter, Bailey, to work the ranch themselves, which they've been trying to do. But with her furnace on the brink of failure and the snow falling faster than ever, Laney agrees to bring Bailey up to Graham's lodge for the holidays.

They were best friends once, but Laney's always entertained feelings for him, and spending so much time with him while they make Christmas memories puts her heart in danger of getting broken again. Can they take their friendship to the next level and build a family? Or will Laney be risking her heart only to remain in the friend zone?

Cute

Sweet romance. This book made me want to go kiss my husband. The hero is a good, but obtuse man who needs a bit of a nudge sometimes. I liked the story and the characters. I really liked the narrator- I listened this book.

Predictable

Great story but typical of this writer. Needed more sizzle and too quick of a wrap-up.

A great read

I will not summarize this story because it was already given in the description of this book and I do not want to give any of the plot away. The purpose of this review is to give potential readers information to make an informed decision about reading or listening to this book.

What I enjoyed about this book:

• During the opening scene, I felt as if I could feel Graham's sadness at the death of his father and his concerns about his new life as a CEO of an energy company and a new lodge owner. This immediately drew me into the story.
• Graham and Laney were the type of characters that you wanted to discover more about as you listened to their story.
• At first, Graham was a workaholic. It was enjoyable to watch him evolve and show his hidden self.
• Both Graham and Laney struggled with abandonment issues. Can they overcome them?
• The romance between Graham and Laney developed believably.
• The minor players in this story added depth to the storyline.
• The descriptions of locations and emotions were well done, easy to visualize, and to feel. I felt a part of the scenes.
• The pacing of the story was neither too slow nor too fast.
• There was a smooth, coherent flow to this book.
• This story had a satisfying ending.
• The narrator, Alan Taylor, did an excellent job in differentiating the various characters' voices. I will want to listen to more books narrated by him.

*This was a clean contemporary western romance.

I was given a free audiobook by the author. My review was voluntary and my opinions were my own. I highly recommend this book.

Handling change

I feel like this captures the uncertainty of life. As we grow and change, what we expect of others changes as well. Clean.

Wonderful!

Strong, sweet storyline with enough drama to keep the pages turning. I love the family support and thread of faith woven throughout it. Relatable characters, especially if you’ve had a broken relationship or a workaholic in your life.
