About this listen

Briggs,

Remember when we parted ways in Germany? It was the day I broke your heart. What you didn't know was that I was breaking mine too.

I thought they'd be enough - my husband and my son. That I'd get home and everything would go back to the way it was...before the war. Before the ambush. Before you. But, no matter how hard I try, I can't erase the trauma we shared. I can't seem to forget the way my heart beat in time with yours. The truth is, I'm lost without you.

I thought the nightmare was over when they pulled us from that hole in the ground, but nothing could have prepared me for the war I'd face at home.

I know it's selfish of me to ask, but, please, I have to see you one last time....

All my love,
Scottie

A Work of Art

This isn’t just a romance book. It’s powerful, insightful and gut wrenchingly beautiful. Thank you to the authors and all who helped them write this story.

Mercy my heart

I can never put into words what this book does to me. These ladies ripped my heart out more times in the story then I'd like to admit. Damn it was so good though. You need this book in your life like you need your next breath. It's that good.

This book is special. Ten Stars ❤️

I had to listen to this book twice before I felt ready to write this. It was so beautifully raw and real. My heart was broken, filled with joy, sad, happy, broken again, reflective, content and shattered at various times throughout this story. I went through the full range of emotions.
The story is unique and not predictable. The authors simply told a story that had all the twists and turns and bumps that life entails. It did not follow “the formula” and I loved it so much more for that reason. It felt real.
Chris, Gavin and Katie were thrown into an impossible situation through no fault of their own. They had no choice over the circumstances that began this journey.
The choices they made throughout were those of real people faced with unsolvable problems and devastating emotional pain.
The authors did an outstanding job with their telling of this story. I hope they collaborate more.
The narrators were good. Tracy Marks was kind of robotic and flat. I adjusted the speed to 0.9 which helped. Her voice and tone were good though.
Aaron Shedlock was very good. I wish he would’ve had more differentiation between the two male characters but it didn’t detract from the story.
Overall, this was a ten star read for me. I will reread again and again.

Heartbreak is an understatement...

The book opens with a quote from Michelle Rosenthal "Trauma creates change you don't choose. Healing is about creating change you do choose."
If that doesn't set the mood for this book so perfectly I don't know what else would. I knew a little bit about this book before going into it. I knew it involved a soldier or multiple soldiers (obviously) and I had heard that it was an emotional read. I mean it's got heartbreak in the title so that also made sense. I severely underestimated how emotional I would get as I read through it though. Not at first of course. I was curious as to where it was going to go given the difference in rank and placement of the soldiers. Then you see it coming. It's like a storm that you can see headed your way but can't run away from. You know it's going to be bad but you can make it through it. What you don't consider is how hard it will be to ride it out and what will be left of you on the other side.
I thought that I knew how a person should handle the situation these people are forced into in the aftermath of what happens. It was what I am sure the majority of people would say should be done. Yet as they go through it I found myself sympathetic to the struggles they were having. I found myself in the same dilemma they were on what should be done, what I wanted them to do. It felt like there was no right answer, every route was wrong, but no one was going to come out unharmed at this point so what do you do? What is the most important thing to come out of your choices in the end? I started to go back and forth with my feelings on it as each pov switched between the characters. The emotions it brought out of me was just so shocking at some points and so incredibly overwhelming that I had to pause and step away several times to collect myself because I was feeling to much at once. Now in no way is that a bad thing so do not think that is what I mean there. It's just that it pulled me that deep into what was happening and made my heart feel so raw as I went through it with them. I've literally never wanted to keep reading a book so bad that had me physically not able to pick it back up until the next day from crying so hard.
And the voice actors? Let me tell you they ripped my heart out with the pain, confusion, and love they portrayed. Amazing job.
With that being said 10 out of freaking 10!

Another great one by Kate Stewart

Loved it - very well developed story, thoughtful ending. Absolutely loved it despite military theme which is not normally my thing.

Enjoyed listening to one if my favorite books

I bought this book when it was first released and have read it twice. Now listening to it has brought more emotion into the story thanks to the wonderful narration. I love the chemistry between Katy and Briggs.

Loved it!

This book was really good! Sometimes I just like listening to books that aren’t very complicated with tons of details and this one was good for that. The female narrator was hard to listen to so much so that I almost turned it off in the beginning because it was like nails on a chalkboard to me lol. She just sounds like every sentence she’s reading off a checklist instead of putting proper emotion into the words. The male was great though and I’m glad I didn’t shut it off.
