Publisher's summary

If you believe the news, today's America is plagued by an epidemic of violent hate crimes.

But is that really true?

In Hate Crime Hoax, professor Wilfred Reilly examines over 100 widely publicized incidents of so-called hate crimes that never actually happened. With a critical eye and attention to detail, Reilly debunks these fabricated incidents - many of them alleged to have happened on college campuses - and explores why so many Americans are driven to fake hate crimes. We're not experiencing an epidemic of hate crimes, Reilly concludes - but we might be experiencing an unprecedented epidemic of hate crime hoaxes.

An Engaging, Authoritative Investigation

Dr Reilly’s fearlessly honest analysis of racial hate crime hoaxes spares nobody from a much-needed exposé: the inflammatory press reporting, the Black and White racial grievance hoaxers, the Gay insurance swindler, or the Muslim girl trying to cover up a date with a Christian boy all get disclosed. His analysis is meticulously fair, and he is scrupulously thorough about the sources of his data. He adds a bit of mirthful humor to enliven story after story of fraud, lies, and foolishness and keeps the crucial statistical analysis brief and to the point.

You cannot authoritatively discuss current American race relations unless you have read his book, and all Americans need to follow his thoughtful recommendations in seeking means to bridge our cultural and racial divisions. The liberal left continually sounds a klaxon about worsening race relations, yet Dr Reilly estimates the over half the high profile racial and sexual bias incidents are hoaxes, which sometimes triggers heinous acts of retaliation by the other side. We would avoid this senseless spiral of retaliation if we follow his advice. If you doubt me—read the book. Do you want to know what is really going on in America? Read the book.

Disturbing

I am half way through the book and I am appreciating the well documented and referenced work by the author. I would like to see a PDF with references for quickly searching them. The gullibility and manipulation of people is "disturbing". Unfortunately, there is a major bias in most reporting and articles. Sometimes it is subtle and occasionally overt and intentional. In medical articles they now have an assessment of bias, in the better peer reviewed journals. Something similar should occur in the news media. We have blurred the lines between news and entertainment/opinion.

This is a necessary and useful condensed course in the lost art of common sense.

One of the most eye opening books I listened to in quite some time! Matter of fact, when my first “read” was complete, I replayed it again to its conclusion!

Great book. Great listen. Awesome to see an author breaking down the ever continuing narrative. Strange times.

Very enjoyable

I laughed out loud several times. The author has a great wit and the narrator brought it out perfectly. The content was well researched and presented although somewhat scattered. But the subject matter is a tough one so I give it a full five stars.

Dragging the memory hole.

I was fascinated by this book. The author does an amazing job of following up on the most high profile hate crimes and gives a definitive report on what happened once we all stopped paying attention. Every page reminds us how collective memory is vital to inject a bit of skepticism into out lives.

I listened to the audio book and am probably going to give it a second listen right now.
