About this listen
An action-packed, coming of age horror tale, full of twists, turns, and unexpected adventures.
Zak and Wendy are a couple of horror buffs who love Halloween. In their sleepy, run-down little town, an exciting attraction promises to inject some life into the place for one special night only. A travelling carnival, making its debut on Halloween.
Anticipation builds, and the mysterious "Halloween Land" carnival is the talk of the town—the calliope music, bright lights, and sweet and savoury smells from the pop-up carnival lure in the crowds flocking to the pier. The two teenage friends Zak and Wendy are eager to be among the first.
Revelations unfold, and mysteries peek from the outer limits. The kids have to think and act fast to defeat the evil that's come to town, and it’s nothing like in the movies!
This tale is full of mystery, fun, magic, tension, and dread.
Step up for the ride, give your ticket to the clown, she'll show you a good time. No one can say where you will end up, but it'll be a wicked ride!

It’s the mid-'90s. Grunge and flannel are fading as the Spice Girls and Hot Topic conquer the malls. Cherry gloss glistens on the lips of the youth. Modems hiss as America comes online. And in a fog-drenched cove at the edge of New England, something terrible awakens when a fisherman reels in a gruesome catch: the remains of a young woman. Remains still pulsing with furious life.

When you first enter The Halloween Store, things seem normal. Fun and frightful decorations, ghastly costumes and masks of the season, and bags of candy galore. Then, as you travel farther into its shadowy depths, things begin to change. The air smells of damp autumn leaves and candle-scorched pumpkin. The shelves of All Hallows’ Eve fare grow darker and more disturbing. Strange and unsettling things of Halloweens past and present lurk amid the cobwebs and dust....

Charged with gross incompetence, Satan is fired from his job as prince of Hell and exiled to that most terrible of places: English suburbia. Forced to live as a human under the name of Jeremy Clovenhoof, the dark lord not only has to contend with the fact that no one recognizes him or gives him the credit he deserves but also has to put up with the bookish war-gamer next door and the voracious man-eater upstairs.

The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity - and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and is spending a year in Manhattan while she pursues her career in professional ballroom dance. Sounds pretty simple, right?

Imagine going to bed with mousy brown locks and waking up with a headful of supernova scarlet. It's a hot new look for me - literally, because it bursts into flames whenever I'm threatened. My magical makeover is all Gary's fault. I knew there was something off from the moment he transferred to my school. Go figure. He's a wizard with a trust fund and an inferiority complex. Now, thanks to him, I've graduated from high school bullies to supernatural terrors and that's not all. Fate has chosen me to face the legendary vampire destined to destroy the world.

Carnies Beware!
This was such a fun book. I’ve actually listened to it 3 times because it’s easy to listen to (highly enjoyed the narration) and the story flows. Would have liked to have heard more about some of the other carnivals but overall it’s a fun listen in a short amount of time.

Is a Funhouse really Fun?
Zack and Wendy are two friends who love horror movies, so when they find out that a carnival named Halloween Land is coming to their town, they just have to go! When they arrive, it appears like a normal enough carnival, complete with rides, carnival food and a Funhouse. But, when they come out of the Funhouse, they discover that his carnival is anything but normal.
This was a great coming of age story, full of creepy clowns, gory action and more. The beautiful clown was a great addition and I loved her character.
If you are looking for a short, creepy story and enjoy books set in a carnival, you will love this one! The narrator did a good job, but I noticed that he changed the voices for the characters from time to time, which was a bit distracting.

"Let's go to the f**king CARNIVAL!"
When the 2 main characters, Zak and Wendy, showed up to Halloween Land it brought me back to going to the county fair as a kid. I always liked when it got dark because of all the lights! A Halloween themed fair would have been even better!
Clearly not this one though! Stay away from the Funhouse!
This story was a crazy time bending and world skipping concept that I couldn't get enough of!
Also I adored the wild, cooky, and crazy Clown lady. She was badass!

Super entertaining coming of age story.
I've had my eye on Halloween Land for a while now and I'm glad I bit the bullet and decided to give it a listen. A bit of whimsy + a lot of horror = one hell of an entertaining story. Right up my alley. Highly recommend!

Fun house?
"Step up for the ride, give your ticket to the clown, she'll show you a good time; no one can say where you will end up, but it'll be a wicked ride!"
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated and in awe of traveling carnivals and fairs. Every time one came to my town as a child, I was begging my parents to take me. It's fair to say they were an integral part of my childhood. But for many, carnivals are shrouded under not just an umbrella of awe but one of suspicion and even fear. It's no surprise then that for many carnivals, carnis and clowns have become the focal points of horror and lore.
In Halloween Land, we follow its two main MCs as they eagerly attend the mysterious carnival that seemed to simply materialize out of thin air on the towns dilapidated pier. Zac and Wendy enter into its fun house and exit to a world unlike the one they left. The events of that Halloween will quite literally haunt them for years to come. As they grow from adolescents to adults, their relationship falters. But now, years later, as the carnival is set to return, it's up to these two to put aside their grievances and join forces to save their sleepy little hometown from evil.
Halloween land is a fast, funny, and bloody coming of age story. It's nothing too deep or serious. Quite honestly, it's a fairly mild and lighthearted tale. If you're looking for extreme horror and gore, this one might not be for you. But if you, like myself, are a kid at heart who still has a deep love of all things carnival, then I definitely suggest giving this book a read.
I enjoyed the audio format of this book. I think the narrator did a great job, and they held my attention throughout the entire story. I would highly recommend this format.

Fun ride with relatable characters
This was a pretty enjoyable tale. I enjoyed all of the spooks and twists and turns, and confronting their pasts, but I felt like the end was a little rushed. But I enjoyed it nonetheless!

A story that
This is a fairly typical coming of age story, though it's set in a horrible amusement park.......I enjoyed the narrator and the concise story. The characters are solid. I hope to see more of these characters in future stories!
