Publisher's summary

Welcome to Ben Rehder's Blanco County, Texas, where the right to bear arms is about to go very, very wrong. In Gun Shy, the National Weapons Alliance rally in support of every American's right to bear arms is meant to garner huge publicity. And the host of the event is none other than the NWA's newest spokesman, handsome country superstar Mitch Campbell. What nobody suspects is that the Stetson-wearing, gun-toting, bull-riding Campbell is a fraud. He's really Norman Kleinschmidt, a pill-popping, snowboarding, former rock-and-roller from Vermont. To Campbell's dismay, someone from his past is about to make that secret a big, big problem. Meanwhile, when an illegal immigrant is killed in a questionable hunting accident just days before the rally, local game warden John Marlin starts to poke around. It's not long before an astonishing series of events threatens to bring down the very carefully marketed Mitch Campbell, and maybe the NWA along with him.

Cozy mystery

... with characters who are quickly becoming old friends... quirks and all.

Another strong delivery from Rehder combing a solid mystery with humor against a backdrop of small town life in Texas, all while examining important issues - this time: gun control.

Stands alone, but better as part of the series.

Who's gun shy???

Red and Billy Don continue to amuse and amaze me as they cause chaos on their wake and add to the storyline. I love how eventually , all the little pieces and clues come to light and the puzzle pieces click into place and reveal facts. More guns, cover ups and southern isms. I'm so saddened by the treatment of immigration and the lack if value on a life. At times it's hard to listen to that. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job.

Interesting

What did you love best about Gun Shy?

The setting and the characters are great. I could identify with the local area and swear I know some of those folks

What other book might you compare Gun Shy to and why?

Any other Ben Rehder books

Which scene was your favorite?

The concert

Any additional comments?

My only problem with this book is I think the author has spent too much time in Austin Texas and my be drinking the liberal kool aid. He seems to knock the 2nd amendment culture but cant quite bring himself to risk pissing off these folks by actually saying he is anti-gun.

Nicely done

In Texas, at least, everyone has an opinion about guns, and they aren't "shy" about expressing them. So I started this book a little hesitantly, not wanting to hear more of the same. But it was handled well and I enjoyed the different viewpoints expressed in the relationship between John Marlin (who expressed the view of every man in my family in one single sentence) and Nicole. I was pleased too with the complexities of the plot and how the story ultimately came together. There's always so much going on in Rehder's books, and he has the Central Texas talk down perfectly - at least one phrase or one story in each of his books makes me laugh out loud. I also enjoyed the narrator's work - he even had a little Keith Morrison sound going on in places. I'll look forward to more of this series and to keeping up with Red, Billy Don, and the rest of the Blanco County gang.

Who Wouldn’t Like John Marlin?

Another trip to Blanco County, Texas. It’s an actual location for the setting of the mystery series that features Game Warden John Marlin who helps the Sheriff’s office on many if its cases. There are many strings with plot twists that are skillfully woven together. The title of the novel belies what actually occurs. Well written and nicely narrated.

Another mystery solved

Ben Rehder is the Carl Haissen of Texas with his tales of Blanco County. This is another fun installment. I look forward to more.

Gun Shy

So many cases to solve in such a little time and how they all intertwined was so fun to listen to. So far I have enjoyed every book in this series and look forward to more.

Absolute trash

Too hokey for words. I am very disappointed. Such a caricature of everyone in the book.
