Publisher's summary

When your family has one world-changing, dark secret to hide - you assume it’s the only one.

Vexa’s life has always been a bit unconventional, but things have recently taken a sharp right toward the ridiculous. Aethon, her 600-year-old ancestor, has the candle. Vexa's power is bound to it, and though she survived, no one knows when he'll show up again to try and break the bond.

With the help of rival necromancer Cole, Vexa races to master the powers she's suppressed most of her life. Abrasive and enigmatic, Cole makes her heart race for more than one reason.

But Ethan, the gorgeous werewolf who helped her defeat Aethon initially, is in trouble. His curse is progressing faster than ever, making it more difficult to control his transformations to the monster he becomes when the Wolf takes over.

Stop Aethon. Reclaim the candle. Save Ethan. Can she do it all?

The second installment in the How to Be a Necromancer series, a reverse-harem romance from D. D. Miers and Graceley Knox, authors of the best-selling Kresova Vampire Harems series.

Respectable follow-up. Will continue the series.

I had trouble connecting with the story this time around: I didn't really care for the magical Scooby Doo gang that is Ethan's contacts and their snobby attitude against Vexa's family. I wanted to know more about Cole, but we got stuck with the Ethan's curse subplot instead. At least Vexa and Ethan have found an ally in Cole. I also enjoyed the unlikely friendship he struck up with aunt Persephona (the soundproof bunker comments had me in stitches lol).

Let's not forget the elephant in the room: the sexual tension between the necromancer, the wolf shifter and the third wheel. Vexa and Ethan get closer intimately. Revelations about Ethan's personal history and Cole's casual disposition when it comes to attraction suggests exciting possibilities for the next book. I hope they can fix the issue with Ethan soon because his curse is becoming progressively worse. Looks like other Fae supernaturals will show up in the third book too.

As good as the first!

I enjoyed this book as much as the first. There wasn’t as much action in this one but I still enjoyed it all the same. The narration was just as good as in the first and she did a good job with the characters. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 3!

The Next Step!

Grave Debt by D. D. Miers and Graceley Knox and narrated by Krys Janae is the second book of How to be a Necromancer.
An excellent job by both authors and narrator. Our FMC, Vexa, is fearful of her ancestor, who just happens to be alive more than a thousand years later. He is coming after her because of the candle that is bound to her. He cant use it unless her kills her. Vexa's magic has been something she has tried to hide or not use her entire life, and now she is getting a crash course in how to use it so her life can be saved. Her cursed werewolf has stayed by her side, and now enter another magic user, who offers to teach her how to use and control her magic.
This is a very slowburn RH, at which time there are only 2 members of the harem present.
CLIFFHANGER ALERT!

Great story!

This is a great second book in this series. New characters are coming in as the ones from book one grow. The storyline is great. The narrator does a great job telling the story. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I loved this book!

I really loved the way Krys Janae gets into character. She really brings the story to life. Yes, there's not as much action, but you never feel like this book is missing anything. D. D. Miers is a wonderful author, and I can't wait to dive into the next story!
