About this listen
There's a brutal murder in the small Welsh village of Gilfach. The police are clueless. With no motive and no real suspect, the investigation soon grinds to a halt. Enter Mary Anne Smith, otherwise known as Granny Smith, the 71-years-young, pipe-smoking, heavy metal-loving, chaos-causing amateur sleuth with a difference.
Granny has a talent for mayhem, and soon those talents are put to good use as our intrepid pensioner starts the unravel the case, which finds her provoking Chief Inspector Miskin as she comes up against a full scale police investigation, proving that you're never too old to make a nuisance of yourself and that 71 is actually the new 21.
Murder's never been so much fun.

But when a detective agency next door goes bust, the agency’s clients start calling into his shop asking him to solve their cases. It’s not as if there’s any danger involved. Thoroughly enjoyable
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, absolutely. As said in the book, Granny Smith is Miss Marple on steroids... and all the more entertaining for it!
Which character – as performed by Fiona Thraille – was your favorite?
Granny Smith - who doesn't love a pipe smoking, heavy metal loving granny?
Any additional comments?
This was a wonderfully entertaining mystery and is the perfect length. The narration was top notch; doing a great job to create suspense and keep the reader enthralled.

Granny Smith
What did you love best about Granny Smith Investigates?
Granny follows in that long tradition of amateur detectives .Though an older woman, she is as different from the Christie character as one could be. Miss Marple was a prim and proper lady of her time and Granny is a pipe smoking, She does the grandmother things: baking cookies for sales and tending to her grandchildren.

Pipe Smoking, Metalhead Granny to the Rescue
This book is definitely not your typical mystery. First, Granny Smith, age 71 on the outside only, is not your prim and proper female detective like Miss Marple or Jessica Fletcher. Second, you do not typically giggle quite so much during most mysteries.
Many Kudos to G. M. Dobbs. You make the reader feel like they are an active part of the story that includes entertaining characters and the joys of small town living where everyone knows most of what everyone else is up to.
Well narrated by Fiona Thraille with well thought out and enjoyable character voices and excellent inflections and characterizations.
I would definitely read the next adventure of Granny Smith Investigates.

This book was fun. You gotta love a granny who references Motorhead and smokes a pipe. I love how she got her nickname, her curiosity, and denial about her son's sexuality. Read it and you won't be disappointed.

Great Cozy Mystery Series!
This is the first book of the series and takes place in Wales. Granny Smith is an extremely quirky, fun 71 years old who smokes a pipe and enjoys heavy metal music. Granny's friend and neighbor is murdered while they are at a festival. The victim's husband is the polices' prime suspect but he was with Granny's husband drinking in the beer tent during the murder. Granny must prove this to the police and clear his name.
I really enjoyed this book and also the next one in the series and highly recommend them. Laugh out loud entertainment. The narration by Fiona Thraille is great, she definitely adds to the mood of the story. I would love to listen to more of this series! I was gifted a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Miss Marple on steroids
Mary Smith, known to everyone around as Granny Smith, sees flashing lights in the middle of the night and looks out her window to see police at her neighbor's house in Granny Smith Investigates by G.M. Dobbs. A resident of her village in Wales took her dog for a walk and discovered the murdered body of Edith Sullivan, Granny's next door neighbor. The police take Edith's husband, Stan, in for questioning and treat him as their chief, and perhaps only, suspect. But Granny is certain that Stan could never have killed his wife and determines to clear his name.
Granny decides that the best suspect is Nigel Charleton, a Londoner engaged to 50- something Sheila, who is prepared to marry for the first time. So she gets together a group of her pals and creates a surveillance team. This leads to all sorts of drama as Granny seeks out the truth. Never mind that she is 71 years old. As she quips, "71 is the new 21!"
I had a fun time listening to Granny Smith Investigate. It is a short book, less than four hours, but it has plenty of fun details to the plot and the characters. The storyline keeps the book moving, and the character of Granny Smith vtruly delights. I love the way that Chief Inspector Miskin dubs Granny "Miss Marple on steroids," which suits her remarkably, and the title gives her plenty of notice when she solves the crime, introducing herself as such instead of her own name.
Fiona Thraille performs the audio version of this book. She does a good job of making this book interesting and seem all the more creative. I am not familiar enough with the Welsh accent, but I think she uses British accents for everything, despite the fact that the book takes place in Wales among people who have lived there for generations. However, I still appreciated her gentle narration, which serves to provide a contrast with the more dramatic material of the book.
I appreciated listening to Granny Smith Investigates, which had plenty of humor and fun in it. I enjoyed Granny's creative methods of trying to solve the case, which led to a lot of fun. The beginning of the book dragged a little, but it sped up. I give the book four stars.

Want a Funny Cozy Mystery?
If you are a fan of the humorous cozy then you will love this one. Granny turns sleuth and doesn't care who she upsets in her quest for the truth. Even the Inspector couldn't get the upper hand of Granny and as for poor Dai Twice, the Special Police Constable, well he had no chance!
Granny Smith Investigates is the first book in a series of four, and is a good listen if you want something light and funny.
Narrator
Narrated by Fiona Thraille, and considering that in the first couple of chapters she had to deal with a Welsh lady talking to a Pakistani man I think she did the job admirably! Her voice is quite suited to the role of Granny Smith, so many narrators bestow any female over 65 with a high, frail quavery and annoying voice, not Fiona, she did Granny proud.

✎ Who Dunnit? Who Will Solve It? Granny, The Law⁇
When a murder is committed in a small, Welch community, everyone is speechless… Everyone but Granny Smith, the self appointed amateur detective – she has decided that she is the only one who can crack the case.
Almost everyone loves their metal head, pipe smoking, up into everyone's business, Granny! At 71, she is quite the character. However, she nearly drives Chief Inspector Miskin in to the asylum with all of her "help". Granny thinks he is off-the-wall and missing the biggest of clues!
Who will solve the crime first?
