Acerca de esta escucha

Adversity and peril force our dear couple to unite against a mighty enemy…

"Good men are scarce—but there are fools aplenty," Colonel Fitzwilliam declares during an impromptu stroll through Rosings Park. Elizabeth's recent experiences with Mr. Darcy have confirmed her belief that good men are very scarce indeed, so imagine her shock when she discovers that the colonel is speaking about Mr. Bingley.

Mr. Darcy hastens his return to town, where a dire conflict threatens his friendship with Mr. Bingley. However, the squabble becomes a trifling matter after an assassination in Hyde Park.

Good Men Are Scarce is a novel where Elizabeth and Darcy come to an early understanding and unite against an enemy. It's a Regency enemies-to-lovers romance featuring espionage and forced proximity.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Elizabeth Grace added a lot to the experience with her excellent narration. The story is less of a romantic tale than a mystery/spy saga. Since I had already read the book, I knew who the villain was, but picking up on the clues was interesting. I’ll be adding this to my re-listen list.

Great Narration by Elizabeth Grace

I love the way Elin Eriksen writes Darcy’s expressions of love. I loved the teasing moments between ODC too.

There’s a bad, bad, Bingley, and a something you’ll never see coming. Great mystery and intriguing plot…oh, and Darcy’s horse is wicked smaht—you might have to stretch your imagination there, but I’m fine with it.

Elizabeth Grace is one of those narrators I always look forward to. She is wonderful—I love a narrator who really performs the characters and doesn’t just read them. Elizabeth knows her craft.

Highly recommend.

Excellent Plot

I thouroughly enjoyed this story, it has a unique storyline within the genre. Most of the characters stay pretty true to what I like and expect of them. Darcy and Col. FW are spies within the govt and do an amazing job! ODC fall for each other pretty quickly in this story, but it's still a bit of a slow burn romance with lots of dialogue and action to justify their love. The Bingley's are questionable characters and Jane is stronger than you would expect. Overall the action keeps moving along so it keeps you engaged, there are a few scenes where you really have to suspend disbelief, but they aren't eye rollers.

Naration was pretty good, while I think this narrator is really very talented, her reading style can come across a bit heavy and droll to me. But she is very talented and the moments where she injects the perfect tone of voice balances with the moments where I wish for a bit more liveliness.

P&P with a little bit of spy action

This variation diverts from canon during Elizabeth’s stay in Kent. Darcy leaves before any disastrous Huntsford proposal could take place. Elizabeth has received a letter from her sister and her aunt that concerns her. Miss Bingley has renewed her friendship with Jane. The question is why?? Darcy has almost cut all his ties to Bingley, again why? Colonel Fitzwilliam brings Georgiana to visit at Elizabeth’s aunt and uncle’s and begin a friendship. On an outing to the park Elizabeth witnesses Col F get shot from a horse. He says a few cryptic comments and Elizabeth fears his death. Darcy is kidnapped and again Elizabeth is a witness but rides on Darcy’s horse, who she has no control over, to see where he is taken. You do have to suspend belief to see this horse is more of a bloodhound as several other reviewers have stated. Secrecy, twist and turns, spies, contract contracts to kidnap & kill, secret weddings and murder all take place in the story. Overall it was an enjoyable who done it story. I will probably read it again.

I also got the audiobook to go with, and that was very well done. Elizabeth Grace was excellent as always & makes the story even better! I am thankful to this and the other authors who continue to use human narrators.

Twists and turns I didn’t fully see coming

I like it when Darcy and Elizabeth come to understand each other without so many misunderstandings. Elizabeth listens to Charlotte's opinion of Wickham. Mr Bennet sends Lizzy to London early, when Mrs Gardener suspects Miss Bingley is trying to make a fool of good natured Jane. In London both Darcy and Colonel Fitzwilliam face grave danger. Clues early on wrap up to reveal duplicity and treachery. Jane is quite a surprise, or perhaps not.

Romance, mystery, suspense and Darcy and Elizabeth work together.

Lots of twists, intrigues and surprises. When you think you know the plot, the story takes a swift turn.

Great!

There were aspects of the book that were hard to believe when I first read it (especially Darcy's amazing horse), but it was easier to overlook these issues when listening to the audiobook.

The plot was fearless and had some unexpected twists and turns. The narrator is one I've heard before, and she is great.

A very exciting story.

One of the best variations and the narration was also excellent! So many variations just fill space and time - this was a worthy commitment of money and time!

Excellent mystery and romance together!
