About this listen

From comedian Sally Chaffin Brooks comes a memoir about the thing she can't seem to shut up about— her life changing thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. 25-year-old Sally has no reason to upend her comfortable, conventional life to spend 5 months hiking the Appalachian Trail; no reason except that her charismatic best friend, Erin, asked her to come along. A woefully out-of-shape Sally quickly realizes she may not actually be prepared for the realities of thru-hiking— brutal weather, wrong turns, and painful blisters have her wanting to quit almost as soon as she starts. But out of loyalty to Erin, or maybe the sinking realization that her life needed upending, Sally sticks it out. As she and Erin trek from Georgia to Maine, they collect a ragtag band of hikers and together stumble from one hilarious (and sometimes scary) predicament to another. By the time she reaches Maine— accompanied by Erin, their crew, and a guy she's maybe (definitely) falling in love with— readers will cheer for the stronger, more self-assured Sally that has emerged and wish they could start the laugh-out-loud, life-affirming adventure all over again.

Hearing the story from the story teller>

You really get to know Sally and feel her emotions throughout her reading her memoir! I recommend grabbing some headphones, finding a trail, and make it a 4-D experience while listening to this book! Highly recommend

A wonderful journey

This book is a hilarious and fascinating out of body experience. As someone who's never even close to done a hike this big, it kind of feels like I actually have now. I really enjoyed this book.

I felt like I was there every step evaluating my own journey through life

What an entertaining and invigorating story about the physical and psychological metamorphosis that is the Appalachian Trail. The writing and storytelling are so authentic I felt like one of the gang tagging along for the epic adventure of a young woman rediscovering all her superpowers and flaws that make her great before allowing herself to be placed on the conveyor belt of life only to become someone she is not.

Funny, heartwarming, and inspiring

I’ve read a lot of long trail memoirs, and Going to Maine is a new favorite. I am sure it will become a hit. Thank you so much for telling your story!

Didn’t want it to end

Listened to the audiobook and loved every minute of it. Great job!!! I started hiking so was interested in listening to a AT audiobook BUT Wow!!! I loved the honest endearing way you talked about all of the people you hiked with and how you were able to get to know yourself better through them and the trail. Excellent!! I’ll be encouraging everyone to listen even if they aren’t the outdoorsy types.

what an incredible journey!

This is an incredibly inspirational tale, and I left it wanting to go and hike the AT.

Some of the audio re-records were drastically different, which took away a bit from the story, but otherwise it was great
