Story
The gender gap reaches beyond the workplace: it also impacts medical diagnoses! While 13% of boys are diagnosed with ADHD, only 4.2% of girls are, and it’s not because girls don’t have it: it’s because we are misdiagnosed! To make matters worse, the older we get, the harder it is for medical professionals to diagnose and treat us properly. Often the only time a medical professional will notice it is if we have children who are diagnosed. By then, you’re used to living in the chaos of your home and brain!

Story
In accessible language and with periodic references to Star Trek, motorcycle daredevils, and near-classic movies of the '80s, developmental molecular biologist John Medina explores the neurological and evolutionary factors that drive teenage behavior and can affect both achievement and engagement. Then he proposes a research-supported counterattack: a bold redesign of educational practices and learning environments to deliberately develop teens' cognitive capacity to manage their emotions, plan, prioritize, and focus.

Story
Between the ages of twelve and twenty-four, the brain changes in important and, at times, challenging ways. In Brainstorm, the renowned psychiatrist and bestselling author of Parenting from the Inside Out, The Whole-Brain Child, and Mindsight, Daniel Siegel busts a number of commonly held myths about adolescence — for example, that it is merely a stage of “immaturity” filled with often “crazy” behavior — to reveal how it is in fact a vital time in our lives in terms of charting the course for the adults we ultimately become.

Story
Many of us know we're putting too much pressure on our kids - and on ourselves - but how do we get off this crazy train? We want our children to succeed, to be their best, and to do their best, but what if they are not on board? A few years ago, Ned Johnson and Bill Stixrud started noticing the same problem from different angles: even high-performing kids were coming to them acutely stressed and lacking any real motivation. Many complained that they had no real control over their lives.

Extremely helpful to any parent
I understand this book was meant to assist neurodivergent children with their words and expression, but honestly, the techniques in this book can be directly used for any child. Children, in general, find it difficult to communicate effectively a lot since, sometimes, they don't know how to break down what they actually feel. As the author mentions, helping them become more comfortable is extremely helpful for them to open up and be more receptive to the information. Until listening to this book, I wasn't even aware that there were so many different types of learners, and knowing this information can actually help me as well since I am a facilitator for adults, and sometimes it is challenging to help them explain something to others without confusing themselves or the other person or having an anxiety attack. I highly recommend this book to any parent who wants to not only help their child communicate better but help themselves communicate better with their child.

“Give Them The Words” is a valuable guide for parents who would like improve the communication skills of the kids with learning disability or behavior issues. The book emphasizes the impact of verbal and non-verbal communication skills to the children’s emotional well-being and balance, and I think the principles are applied to adults as well. Must Have for Parents
This audiobook is a must have for parents, (and grandparents) of neurodivergent children. Written by a speech language pathologist, it is thorough and provides great techniques for to communicate with your child, and helping them communicate with the world.
I love how the author views these children as exceptional, and writes from that point of view. As a parent, being able to communicate effectively with your child is essential for forming the parent / child bond. And it is also very rewarding to be able to help your child learn to communicate better at school and beyond.
Highly recommended.

Fascinating view of how we all learn differently
I learned so much about various learning and communicating styles, including my own and those in my family. Everyone processes words and information differently and some need a little more help putting it all together. This is an excellent read for any parent, especially those who have children who don't seem to be picking up language or speech as quickly as you think they should. it was also a good affirmation that some things I did instinctively were spot on. I know I will be more understanding now with others I encounter who seem to struggle.
