Publisher's summary

Clete Keith never had thoughts of writing a book, let alone one on the paranormal. He was not someone totally convinced in the existence of ghosts or spiritual hauntings - until he started working at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills.

After 22 years and retirement looming, he woke up one night at three o'clock with the idea of writing a book about all the stories he has heard as well as his own experiences. Ghosts of Greystone - Beverly Hills is not just a collection of ghost stories, but a landmark exposé of eyewitness accounts detailing supernatural activity associated with this extraordinary location.

Keith spent nearly three years interviewing and researching the supernatural activity at the estate. With 237 stories from 86 interviews, including guests of the park, city staff, police officers, movie crew personnel, and janitorial services, Ghosts of Greystone - Beverly Hills promises you a riveting history and ghostly encounters.

For more than two decades, the mystery surrounding the strange events taking place in and around Greystone Mansion have been suppressed, ignored, and disbelieved...until now. "From a paranormal perspective, the estate is extremely active," warns author and investigator Clete Keith. "Until now, witnesses to unexplained phenomena have been reluctant to come forward fearing ridicule as well as accusations that their experiences are nothing more than junk science. I believe it's time to open the lid on this Pandora's Box and reveal the mystery inside."

With intriguing details about the landscape and architecture, Keith delves into the family of Ned and Lucy Doheny, including the fateful murder/suicide on the night of February 16, 1929. People from all over the world come to visit this iconic location. They want to peek behind the curtain and observe this ghostly estate for themselves. Ghosts of Greystone - Beverly Hills will allow them to do just that.

Great Ghostly Stories

If you have a fascination with the paranormal and ghost stories, this book is for you. Anchored by Greystone, the grandest mansion in California after Hearst Castle when it was built, it was a present from Edward Doheny to his son. At the time the elder Doheny owned the largest oil company in the USA and was richer than John D. Rockefeller. The ill-fated son died in a murder-suicide in the house a year after moving in. They were not the only ones to die there by unnatural means.

Beverly Hills bought the mansion to use part of the acreage for a reservoir. Subsequently, the mansion was ignored, then became the HQ for the American Film Institute, then a park, and throughout was used for film shoots for many of your favorite movies.

The moviemakers are attracted by the grand architectural features of the mansion and grounds. This despite some of the original residents and their visitors still inhabiting the mansion. You could not say they “live” there, though.

Strange goings on terrify and pester later tenants and visitors. The author started to make notes of the encounters, eventually giving in to a full-fledged investigation that led to hundreds of documented experiences. Not to worry, the spirits are almost all benign with scarcely a demon among them, mostly.

“Nearly half of Americans believe in demons, and the psychiatric field recognizes ‘possession’” according the the LA Times (5/18/2022, P. A18, Lynn Hightower). If you are one of them, then you should drop by the mansion the next time you are in Beverly Hills, particularly at night. If you are not that brave and foolhardy, then check out this book at a safe distance from Greystone.

The reader on Audible is terrific.

Best Audiobook Ever!

I’ve lost count how many times I’ve listened to this book. The subject itself is just fascinating and the book is well put together and very well narrated.

Excellent Book, terrible narrator

I’ve been visiting Greystone Mansion lately as it is close to my home in Los Angeles so I was very intrigued with the stories as well as the spiritual activity around the mansion grounds. The book does not disappoint. HOWEVER, the narrator tends to get carried away in his portrayal of the various voices recounting their ghost stories. Incredibly stereotypical, borderline racially questionable. Is he absolutely sure the man named Chang has an asian accent? What about the cleaning lady sounding like my Mexican grandmother. And so on… Maybe just read the book next time buddy.

Intriguing stories

Congrats to Clete!!! Well done!! I enjoyed the book. It has so many interesting stories and were well laying out. I picture myself in these stories and image how would I react if I was the person experienced. I hope some day these mysteries can be explained and those poor ghosts can find their way home.

One of the best paranormal books I’ve ever read!

I’ve read/listened to dozens and dozens of books on paranormal activity and ghosts; this hands down was the best. Many different tales from equally different people make this an amazing book. Everything from full fledged apparitions to poltergeist, this place has it all.
