About this listen

For fans of commercial urban fantasy like the popular Red Rising series by Pierce Brown, this is the astoundingly powerful finale of Rachel Vincent's Menagerie trilogy, where Delilah will uncover the truth about her mystical furaie origins and discover her true purpose: to stop a second deadly war on humanity. Told through two intersecting timelines, the grand finale to Rachel Vincent's stunning Menagerie series will reveal the secret of how Delilah Marlow became a furiae just as she discovers what her true purpose is.

In 1986, humanity experienced the Reaping - a nationwide slaughter of six-year-old children by their parents - one of the country's most horrific tragedies. What's even more terrifying: the revelation that the few six-year-old survivors of the country's greatest tragedy are now thought to have caused it.

These aren't the children their families believed they were. In truth, they were fae changelings brought home from the hospital in place of the real babies for whom they were exchanged. From that day forward, the world would never trust another cryptid. For if the fae were capable of such dark evil, surely all cryptid creatures posed a danger to humanity.

Now, Delilah Marlow and a rogue group of cryptids are on the run, having narrowly escaped the horrors of the Savage Spectacle, a private collection of "exotic wildlife" that specialized in ruthless cryptid cage matches, safari-style creature hunts, and living party favors. As they travel in search of lost family members and cryptid friends, Delilah struggles with the difficulties of pregnancy, complicated by the bitter memory of how her child was conceived.

Then one morning, Delilah wakes up with dried blood all over her hands. Though she has no memory of it, she obviously went somewhere - and possibly killed someone - in her sleep. Soon, Delilah finds herself constantly pulled by the furiae, which she hasn't felt stir within her in quite a while, but who she has no choice but to follow.

As she is compelled to act on the furiae's impulses, she's beginning to realize something much bigger is at stake. There is something connecting her victims, something more than the usual injustice she kills them for - and perhaps something as dangerous as another Reaping.

Loved these books, but….

I really enjoyed this series but the endings were much too rushed. Still, worth the listen, even if I was disappointed in how the last book ended.

Page turner

Wonderful end to a great series beginning with Delila’s capture at a menagerie and in this book her discovery of the drive behind the serogates. Many of the unknown questions were answered. Delila was able to recognize the role the furies had for her in relation to helping the humans who had scorned her and her kind. I highly recommend this series

I'm sad the series is over.

When I saw this was the last book I was sad there would be no more. At the end I knew it was the last.

Emotional

I read the first two in the series and was not anxious to see it end. Overall, I enjoyed it and found it to be very deep and emotional at times with just the right amount of action. I did not like how it ended, though.

Bittersweet ending that needed to happen

A wonderful finale to the trilogy, the ending was the one that needed to happen, though not the one that everyone will necessarily want to read.

let down

I loved the first two books, but this was a slow summer that never amounts to much. There's so much unfinished by the end and it was just not satisfying. it feels like the author ran out of ideas and just wanted to wrap up the series.

This is not what I expected.

I loved this series until the end. I do not like killing the main person and trying to think it's a happy ending. I wish I never heard it and I wish she never wrote a story I loved only to ruin it in the end. Sorry never loved romeo and juliet stories. In my life I've seen and experienced bad enough in my life I only like books that end with the main caracter living and being happy. I guess she just likes the whole a good person sacrifices and that makes every good. Sorry I feel like there is to many sacrifices in real life I don't need to experience in a fictional story at least that the main character is the one that loses in the end. I do have to say this every story you wrote I loved until this series I loved ever one even this one until the end. It makes me weary to read any other series from this author. There is nothing worse than loving a story to make me hate it in the end.
