About this listen

Do you sometimes feel that you're less sharp than you could be? Or do you feel that your mental energy isn't where you want it to be? Did you know that you can change the way that you think and feel by changing what you eat?

And most importantly - it’s something you need to start doing right now.

It’s hard to know what’s meant to be healthy. If you read the news, you’ll see headlines praising a food one day, and then condemning it the next. You’ll see people selling you miracle cures for conditions that they’ve invented. You’ll realize that powerful industries control the information that’s given the most airtime, and that ultimately, you’re better off trying to find out the truth for yourself.

My name is Aisha Summers, and over my lifetime involvement in the nutrition industry, I’ve learned that the only way to truly empower yourself is through knowledge. Your health is in your own hands, and true health can be built on knowledge.

In my book, Food for Your Brain, here's just a small part of the things we'll cover:

  • The best diet to maintain a healthy brain throughout your whole life
  • The worst things for your brain - the foods you really need to avoid
  • The surprising science that reveals the links between your diet and your mental health
  • How changing your understanding of nutrition will mean that the changes you make to your diet will stick
  • It’s not just what kind of food that you eat - but the quantities and timing make a difference as well
  • The ways to reorientate your life to make sure your brain is at its best, and how food can take a central role

The things that you’re eating right now are laying the groundwork for how your brain will function in the future.

This isn’t a problem that can be left to be dealt with later.

Keeping your brain in the best possible health should be your top priority!

Interesting!

This audiobook is interesting. Besides some issues (background sounds), Sassy Clyde did a good job with the narration. Her voice is pleasant to listen to.

Informative and well reasoned

Upfront: I received this audiobook for free in exchange for a review.

The short review: I recommend this book if you're at all interested in how diet affects brain resilience & health at all points in your life.

Book Material: I like the way she laid out the book, she builds a foundation of knowledge and then expands and connects it all before wrapping up. I like that she has healthy dose of skepticism in her approach and review. I am going to incorporate some of what I learned to improve my health.

Narrator: Overall the narration was good. There were moments in chapter 4 when I could hear what sounded like another audio book recording playing in the background. In chapter 5, there were other audio anomalies. My only other criticism is that times her pronunciation of the technical terms sounded like it had been pre-recorded and then inserted into the book at those points when it was referenced. This broke the cadence of the narration at times.

Random question: is the author using a nom de plume?

great primer on basic nutrition

This is a great primer for someone just starting their nutrition journey. chapters are easy to follow with good transition. Narrator speed is perfect.

Note: the reader is British and there are a number of words that are pronounced differently in British English versus US English. But personally, I love the variety. I also love that she used the word "porridge".

Amazing book!

Amazing book! This book is loaded with great information about simple dietary changes that anyone can make to keep their brain healthy. She has done an excellent job providing in-depth scientific research to back all her suggestions in a way that is easy to understand. I have many family members that have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. It is very important to me to do what I can to prevent this illness. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is serious about improving/maintaining their brain health.

Helpful information

I liked what I learned, but there was a point in the audiobook (I think it was chapter 4) when I was hearing two recordings at the same time, and that was distracting and a bit hard to follow, but other than that it was good

Lots of information in a compact book

I grabbed this book (Yes I got it freed) because I was hoping to find new information I didn't already know. The good news is that it has a lot of good information.
The issues had with the book was not about its content... much. There are editing issues. In one of the chapters (I think it was Chapter 6) where someone claps and is talking in the background. Then there is the 'Please review this book' three hours in. While I understand that reviews are gold bars to writers, this push for a review came off as d!ck!$h at best. Another thing that irritated me was the 'superfood' label. Any person with an ouch of common sense knows this idiotic buzzword is something marketers take advantage of and try to convince people that food X is a silver bullet.
