About this listen
A notorious work of art. A devious plan. And a dangerous mastermind who will stop at nothing to see it through....
Narrated by the acclaimed Simon Prebble and Mary Jane Wells.
London, 1899: A struggling young Persian artist sends Flynn, one of Sherlock Holmes’ Baker Street Irregulars, out to buy provisions for a fabulous celebratory dinner. Flynn is happy to oblige. But when he brings the requested groceries to the artist’s wife, her joy quickly turns to suspicion and fear. Then Flynn returns to the artist’s studio, only to find that disaster has struck.
Meanwhile, the National Portrait Gallery enlists the help of Sherlock Homes to investigate the mysterious theft of The Pink Lady, a famous portrait worth a grand sum of money. As Holmes sets out to recover the precious painting, he uncovers a dark web of deceit far more complex than he imagined.
When London art collectors begin meeting untimely ends, the Baker Street team must act quickly to find the painting, protect their artist friend, and take down a murderous mastermind. Success will take ingenuity, daring, and a stroke of sheer luck. Are they up to the task? Or will the case of the Five Pink Ladies fade to black?
A fast-paced and thrilling Sherlock Holmes adventure with a labyrinth of intriguing twists and turns, Five Pink Ladies has all the wit and charm of the beloved original series, while offering fresh new mysteries for old and new fans alike.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the late Terry Golledge wrote 10 Holmes masterful pastiches that perfectly captured Dr. Watson's voice, as well as Holmes’ personality and methods. Mr. Golledge passed away in 1996, before these stories could be published. In early 2022, Terry’s son, Niel Golledge, reached out to Sherlockian editor David Marcum, who was electrified to read such wonderful previously lost tales about the heroes of Baker Street.

Story
There is a persistent and incorrect idea, reinforced by countless film misrepresentations, that Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson were always staid and dull British chaps of middle years (or older), with Holmes a spry, cranky, and impatient eccentric, and Watson a white-haired and portly Boobus Brittanicus, a la Nigel Bruce. Students of the true and Canonical Sherlock Holmes know this to be a falsehood.

In "Murder at the Mousetrap," the first Bunburry book, fudge-making and quaffing real ale in the local pub are matched by an undercurrent of passion, jealousy, hatred and murder - laced with a welcome dose of humour. Alfie McAlister has retreated from London to the peace and quiet of the country to recover from a personal tragedy. But an accidental death - which may have been no accident - reveals that the heart of England is far from the tranquil backwater he imagined.

Story
The world was not prepared for this story, a conspiracy hatched in the highest levels of the British government. A rogue Minister of Defense plans to turn soldiers into blood-thirsty animals—and Holmes and Watson may be among their first victims. The adventure starts when Holmes is warned away from investigating Jack the Ripper’s heinous crimes. Despite Holmes’ well-known skills, he is sidelined. He must content himself with a straightforward case, finding a bolting beau, the result of a simple lovers’ quarrel. But that “romance gone wrong” is really the key to a nasty secret.

A fun, quick mystery
A solid, quick Sherlockian mystery surrounding murder and an art gallery. At just over 2 hrs, the story moves quickly and that is one of its strengths. In addition, the story adds support from some of Sherlock’s Irregulars … those street urchins that have become the eyes and ears of the Great Detective in the seedy underbelly of society. The narration was fantastic, with good range of voice and dialect to separate the characters.
I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Getting to know Flynn a bit more ♥
It's Flynn's turn, now :D When his Persian artist friend is almost killed, Flynn asks for Watson's help. And, of course, Lucy and Becky are soon involved, too :P
Meanwhile, Holmes is brought into the murder of one of the National Portrait Gallery's guards, committed during the theft of one of its paintings. When he hears about the attack on Flynn's friend, he knows it must be related. Soon, the plot will thicken, with more murders and more danger to everybody involved. Quick-paced and thrilling, this is another great story in this series.
We get to learn a little more about Flynn, who is fascinating not only by his independence and resourcefulness but for his loyalty and big heart.
Oh, and I love that Becky wants to be a doctor! ♥
