Hope's on the case...again!

Fishing for a Murderer: Hope Hadley Cozy Mystery Series, Book 2 by Meredith Potts, narrated by Rachel Carr is fun series to follow for lovers of cozies! Enough of the storyline is repeated from Book 1 if you wanted to treat this as a stand-alone. I enjoyed Book 1 enough to purchase the entire series, and I'm sure fans of the genre will feel the same. It is a quick listen at about 3 hours 20 minutes...great for a Saturday afternoon at home or for your drive to and from work. When ex-Hollywood actress Hope Hadley finds herself out of a job, she moves back to Florida, where she is originally from. It is here that she runs an animal shelter. As time goes on, Hope learns from her detective brother, Joe, that her friend/employee, Paige, is the prime suspect in a murder investigation....the murder of Paige's ex-boyfriend, Mark. Not wanting to see her friend go down in flames, Hope takes it upon herself to find the real murderer and clear her friend's name. How hard could it be? C'mon...she has several years of experience as a detective...a detective in a TV series that is...

Rachel Carr's narration definitely added to my enjoyment of this book. I feel she did better in Book 2 than she did in Book 1, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from her in Books 3 & 4! I feel that her interpretation of the plot brings the characters to life. She has great inflection and plays the part of Hope Hadley very well.

Overall, I feel Fishing for a Murderer: Hope Hadley Cozy Mystery Series, Book 2 deserves a rating of 4 stars. While the storyline is engaging and the characters make me chuckle, I think there are parts that could use a little tweeking. I may have noticed this more because I am choosing to listen to one audiobook right after the other, but I felt that there was too much repetition of dialogue and background information from Book 1. In my opinion, there are many ways in which characters can express themselves. However, when the same exact wording (across books) is used in specific instances, it's only a matter of time before it is noticed. I also feel that the background information of Hope's could have been revealed differently to readers/listeners. With the many references and mentions of her past life as an actress, a re-telling of Book 1 isn't necessary. As someone who has already made it through Book 1, this was too repetitive, and those who have chosen to start with Book 2 without reading Book 1 will not have a problem picking up on the fact that Hope was once an actress. Even though this is a fairly short book already, sticking with the idea of "less is more" would turn this book from good to great! Obviously, this is just my personal opinion. I'm looking forward to continuing this series, and I'm headed to my Audible library to download Book 3 right now. Yay!

Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. :-)

Hope is a sassy & strong lead

If you’re someone who needs a story to seem ‘by the book’ realistic or life-like then you probably won’t like this. But if you want to get into a short cozy with a sassy heroine that you can get lost in (and laugh a bit), then you’ll love it! The lead character intensely interrogates a lot of suspects & while her tactics can be a bit harsh, it gets the job done! Hope is strong, confident & determined to prove her best friends innocence. We could all use a friend like Hope on our side!

Fishing for a Murderer

Hope is back in her hometown and settling in nicely, that is until her new employee is accused of murder by her police officer brother. In true Hope fashion she takes it upon herself to find out who really committed the murder. This is a super fun series and the books are fast listens with great narration.

Enthusiastic storytelling, fun listen

Second in the series. Love the energy Hope put into solving the mystery. Her loyalty to her friend was great, and her approach to sleuthing was not quite conventional. The introduction of Danny will give the series a little more. Rachel Carr's narration injected Hope with a lot of energy and enthusiasm.

I received a copy of this audiobook as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

Good read/listen

Fishing for a Murderer (Hope Hadley #2), my eighth short read/listen from author Meredith Potts. Another cute, well-written & enjoyable clean cozy mystery, the second in this series. I was been given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reading & reviewing it. Rachel Carr’s talented narration adds to the book's enjoyment. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Quick and entertaining

Hope is now living in Florida, and she's doing well: she has a shelter for abandoned pets, enjoys her job and there is even a blooming romance to look forward. But, of course, things can't keep so calm around her. There is a murder and the main suspect is an employee of the shelter. Not only that, but the official who is investigating is Hope's brother, with whom she doesn't have a really good relationship...

So, of course, leaving aside her brother's warnings, she goes heads-on into investigative mode.

This is quick and sassy (sorry, I couldn't help myself!) and I loved it. Entertaining and fun, this is a lovely story and I'm really looking forward to the next one.

Rachel Carr does an amazing job narrating this book, and her interpretation improves the enjoyment of the story.

Hopes friend Paige is the prime suspect for murder. Hope anamateur sleuth decides to investigate to clear her. Her brother Joe doesn't want her involved in the investigation. I enjoyed this book.
