About this listen

Linden Avery, who loved Thomas Covenant when they traveled together to The Land 10 years ago, returns to this magical realm in search of her son, Jeremiah. There, not only does she find her son has been healed of the tragic mental condition that kept him mute and unresponsive for years, but she also finds Thomas Covenant himself, impossibly alive and frighteningly intent on carrying out a dark and dangerous plan. Yet when Linden hears Covenant’s voice in her dreams, crying “Linden, find me”, she’s forced to consider whether the man she’s traveling with is the same Thomas Covenant she loved and adored, or whether he’s been twisted into something dark and far more sinister.

Great story....

Donaldson weaves a great tale, but, EVERY description is the penultimate, epic, extreme, overwhelming pinnacle. it gets a bit silly after a bit. Character's titles must be repeated so much it's tiresome. If his characters were honest with one another and spoke plainly this wouldn't require so many loooong installments.

Donaldson Has Out-Tolkeined Tolkien

Along with JRR Tolkien's "Lord of The Rings", there has been one other literary work that has accompanied me through life, and it has been Stephen R Donaldson's "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant The Unbeliever". The first Chronicles was published, as I was in junior high school. The second began as I graduated high school, and ended as I finished my enlistment in the Army. This Chronicles, his last, has wrapped up as I entered my 50's. The rich detail with which Stephen R Donaldson has imbued these stories has made them worthy of being enjoyed, again and again. I gain a new appreciation of his creation with each re-reading, and this last Chronicles has truly shined a light on the mastery of his narrative. Not one detail has been for naught. Every word was building to a particular conclusion and, as this is my first re-reading of The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, I am grasping what a true master work, this is. I couldn't recommend it more heartily!

Far too slow

I really enjoyed the first two series but this one has really gotten bogged down into explaining new realms of power. It almost seems as if the author had his own severely autistic child and he is wishing for useful magical abilities to emerge.
