Good but for some reason bored me

I don't really know why but just could not finish it. Just couldn't seem to care about the characters and got bored and realized chapters would go by without me even paying attention to what had happened. I like the Narrator and the world building. just Meh..

Engaging

I've read the books previously and loved them. The story, characters, and sheer imagination in these books is incredible. When I heard that an audio version would be released, I was interested in revisiting the world and I am really enjoying the narration so far and am glad I get to revisit this tale in another format.

The book was interesting

The book is extremely well-written, plot seems to drag on a little bit with slighr subtle gaps in the story line.

Interesting story if you stick with it

This story has some pretty cool aspects to it. The first book took a while to get through due to unfamiliarity with the names of races and places, but by the end of book 3 you're pretty comfortable with it. I can definitely see much of Tolkien in the story and the battle scenes feel like they were pulled right from Age of Empires 2!
One thing I struggled with was it felt like there was not one enemy goal. It felt like each enemy had different motives and none of them supported the others besides stopping the forward progression of the protagonists.
I really appreciated the character arch of many of the protagonists and was satisfied with the ending.
The performance was really well done and made for an engaging listen.

Good Series

Not my normal genre. Very epic level story.
Had a little issue with name, relationships, and locations but I also split listening to multiple sessions as I drove so that might have been part of it.

Amazingly done.

The world building was wonderfully done, the characters were complex yet not difficult to understand.
And the narrator was a joy to listen to.

Solid Fantasy Story, Good Value

This was a solid fantasy series, blending both familiar fantasy tropes with unique mythologies. I’d recommend this to someone who has listened to all of the top tier fantasy series such as Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, Sanderson, etc. and is looking for a good fantasy series for a great value. Simon Vance has moments of greatness in his performance but at times I had trouble distinguishing the different characters. Overall good effort and I’d feel confident listening to other works by this author.

Slow at first, but worth it

I almost quit listening at the beginning. It was slow and not terribly grabbing. The story was slow to build and nothing about the story or the characters was really grabbing my attention at first. But I figured I’d give it a chance, and I’m glad I did. Once it got going I got hooked. It’s an excellent story with much depth to it. I definitely recommend it.
