A Good Mystery

This was a good mystery story. The story kept moving and kept me guessing. I usually don't read mysteries, so I'm bad at figuring out who-done-it. The narrator was okay, but the distinction between characters was a bit fuzzy. overall a great book that made my mind work in a different way.

Well written and narrated murder mystery

Very prolific self published author John C. Dalglish publishes his 16th book in his Jason Strong Mysteries set in San Antonio Texas. There are really two protagonists: partners Detective Jason Strong and Detective Vanessa Lane. Lane is also the best friend of Strong's wife. Author Dalglish publishes what he calls "clean mysteries" by which he means family friendly novels with no off color language and no graphic sex. It does not detract from the quality of his stories which are consistently 4 or 5 star suspense mysteries. Most of the audio novels in the series are in series are 2.5 to 4.5 hours in length and are more likely properly classified as novellas. At 4.5 hours Fatal Affair is one of the longer ones in the 3 series Dalglish has written.

The main issue I have with this series is the author's unwillingness or inability to find and stay with an excellent narrator.

Another great Detective story

Another great detective audiobook that brings Jason Strong back together with his partner, Vanessa. An entertaining, clean who-done-it that builds on previous stories and yet can still be read as a stand-alone story. The carefully woven plot thickens slowly as the two detectives team up to find a duel killer and solve a complex crime. At the same time, Jason is also trying to cope with a scary problem at home, that creates realistic worries in the reader. The narrator once again does a great job. The individual voices he gives the characters are consistent and appealing from one book to the next and his tone and intonation creates tension and emotion in just the right places, making a well written story even more enjoyable.

Well, that left me in tears

I'm enjoying John C Daglish's books. They aren't overly complicated with extraneous plot lines and red herrings like some crime books are, but still keep the reader guessing as to the outcome of the story. This book was in the same vein. Yes, he has personal touches to the story .... we do need to get to know the main characters and their growth, you can't enjoy a series without character development.

This book finds Vanessa Lane back at work after the events of book 15, and back with Jason Strong as her partner. This time it's Jason's personal life that provides the background character development. As his wife deals with medical issues, Strong and Lane investigate the murder of a manager of a restaurant, which turns out to have been robbed the same night. When clues and suspects lead to a second body, the two slowly unravel the case.

The tears? Well, you'll just have to read the book and see for yourself.
