About this listen

Prilla, the newest fairy to arrive in Never Land, is so odd that Never Land itself isn't certain whether to let her into Fairy Haven. Prilla shakes hands when she meets other fairies, and she says "Pleased to meet you" instead of "Fly with you". What's more, she calls Tinker Bell Miss Bell. Altogether, she acts more like a Clumsy than a self-respecting Never fairy should. To make matters worse, Prilla doesn't know what her talent is - or if she has a talent at all. Mother Dove, the wisest creature in Never Land, thinks Prilla has a talent, but even she isn't certain.

A diabolical hurricane, a selfish fairy, Captain Hook, snobby mermaids, a fierce golden hawk, and the evil dragon Kyto combine in a tantalizing elixir that tests Mother Dove's wisdom, Tink's courage, and Prilla's mettle. Even Clumsy children on the mainland - even listeners, wherever they may be, play a crucial role in deciding Never Land's fate.

Wonderful to reread as an adult

The fairy world and its inhabitants, as told by Gail Carson Levine, are just as charming, whimsical, and emotionally impactful now as they were when I devoured these stories as a kid. It’s amazing what she can write in such a short book, without it feeling overwhelming as introductions to fantasy worlds so often are, and I find myself still desperate to see more of her Fairy Haven after all these years.

It’s worth noting that the Pixie Hollow films are just as lovely, but totally different. Fairy Dust’s story is heartbreaking, violent, and cruel, and the ending will have you clapping along with the questers for a touching finish.

a wonderful performance !

My sisters loved it and I enjoyed hearing a childhood favorite of mine come to life. It's such a sweet story, but serious enough to interest a wide age range. very few people die or bleed in Disney books and this one has both. the kids want me to buy the next 2 books.

a childhood fav but omfg

I love this book but the baby cackling is *awful* like I get the point that fries are born of a babied first laugh....but AFTER EVERY CHAPTER!? Too much. I worry about fairy overpopulation.

Far too violent

FYI for parents - this book is NOT part of the "Disney Fairies" chapter-book series about Pixie Hollow -- which this book resembles, and which is appropriate for a wide range of ages. This story starts out fine for younger listeners but turns quite violent and overly dramatic; my daughter has had nightmares as a result (needless to say we did not make it to the end). I regret downloading this; my bad for not recognizing the discrepancy.
