About this listen

A TROPICAL PARADISE WITH EVIL SECRETS

A teenage girl’s disappearance leads a washed-up investigative reporter, Brie Cardone, to a small town across the Hudson, where she stumbles upon a human trafficking ring luring young girls with promises of freedom and witchcraft. When police chalk the case up as a runaway, Brie solicits the help of NYC Detective Clare Amatto. Following a trail of spells and visions to the leader of a Caribbean Witch Order, they land in hot and humid Cuba, a place Clare, the daughter of exiled Cuban parents, has feared for her entire life.

The search leads them through the sunny Havana streets that light up with sultry music and colorful carnivals only to hide the hideous crimes under its timeworn cobblestone. Each passing day lessens their chances of finding the teen. And if they do find her, will the island let them out alive?

Suspense filled page turner!!

The author takes you on a journey from the United States to Communist Cuba and back. You navigate through the politics of Cuba and their native Santeria rituals. The narrator Verónica Thames does all the characters justice.

Kept me on the edge of my seat

I both read and listened to this book because I didn't want to stop even when I had to. I'm really looking forward to more adventures with these characters and the This novel is an example of why fiction is so important for opening our eyes to the deeper layers of reality that surrounds us. The story takes us on a journey with Claire Amatto and Brie Cardone as they uncover a timeless world of Cuban witchcraft laced through a timeless practice of human trafficking. It's a thrilling story with unexpected twists that keep the pages turning. I highly recommend this read for your next vacation, not only because it's an amazing escape, but because as you read it, in your travels, it will make you pause and see the world around you in a much different light. The reader's voice was pleasant and her performance enhanced the story with her ability to accurately articulate the cuban accents and language as it appeared in the variety of characters.
