Publisher's summary

Dragons make life complicated. Extremely complicated.

After returning from Idaho, I was hoping to have time to figure things out with Zav - also known as Lord Zavryd, the dragon who claimed me as his mate without asking - but the dark elves are up to their old tricks again.

Actually, they’re up to far more deadly tricks, using more powerful magic than I knew existed. I have no idea how I’m going to stop them, but if I can’t, my entire city and everybody I care about could be obliterated.

To make matters worse, Zav’s sister has shown up and is rooting around in my life. His family doesn’t approve of me, and she plans to put an end to our relationship...one way or another.

Fun, funny, long slow burn, well written.

So refreshing! A modern series with strong, realistic, female characters but without the FemiNasZsi BS! There is no LGBT.AARP, either. It's well written, narrated, unique, funny, and though a fantasy adventure, there is a rare long-slow burn (non cheesy Hallm*rk) romance. Love the cat side-kick and where the story seems to be going. All unique post 2016.

Story plot

Love the characters & the narrators individual style with each one. Great story line with mystery, romance, friendship, & also conquering "bad guys".

Only one problem

I get tired of strong heroines turning into idiots when the dude shows up. If she's that tough, she can handle it all whether he is around or not. Quit turning good characters into idiotic fodder. I'll give the next book a try and hope she is still not man-stupid.

Great book, great series

Great narration, great continuation of the story. Just great, great, great. That isn't enough greats, but seems excessive in text form ;)

she finally returned to her family's lives and finally admitted she cared about zav

the sister and the fact that they haven't realized her elf relatives could be offended by hurting their princess

Ribs are Good

Lindsay Buroker’s Elven Doom had everything that it’s predecessor was missing. Brought back the wit, sarcasm, and fun associated with the Death Before Dragons series. Another entertaining book. Vivienne Leheny knocked it out with the narration. Minus a minor bump with book 3, great series so far! DR 4-5-23

Progress, finally!

It took until this book, but i finally warmed to Zav. Maybe it’s because the arrival of Zav’s sister brings an even bigger dragon-jerk to make Zav seem delightful in comparison. Or maybe it’s because Zav and Val both make some breakthroughs by, gasp, communicating. The slow burn gets a boost, but the payoff is still at least one more book away.

This book also has the best blend of fun, action, intrigue, and magic as Val takes on dark elves and their diabolical plan to destroy Seattle. It gave me great JamesBond vibes, except with some fierce lady soldiers (really loving Val’s boss Willard). The only other thing I’d like to see is all of Val’s friends coming together to save the day: part gnome Nin, part dwarf Dimitri, … even the vampire is growing on me.
