About this listen

They emerge from shadows. Hungry for flesh, they scurry forth. They are the marauders, the galaxy's deadliest predators.

And they crave Earth.

Five years ago, we won our first galactic war. We defeated the scum, a race of alien centipedes. But the marauders are stronger, smarter, and crueler by far. And they will show us no mercy.

Marco Emery, hero of the last war, struggles today as a civilian. Shell shock cripples him. Nightmares haunt him. Yet now he must become a soldier again. Now his old platoon must reunite. Together, they must defeat the greatest threat Earth has ever known.

Or humanity will fall.

Long and obvious setup for the end of the book.

Any additional comments?

To be honest I just soldered on through the 2/3 of the middle of the book. Knowing full well what this brutally long setup was all about.

The whole book was obvious to be honest. It could have been condensed into a character and scene set of chapters in the next book. At the same time I understand why the author tried so hard to create some version of time passing and people changing. It would have made the next book formulaic if it wasn't done. I think honestly there could have been more done with back ground plot elements. This was a missed opportunity to expand the story universe.

Most depressing book!

It was so depressing I couldn't finish the last 2 hours I probably will finish but I couldn't finish it at this point in time I was becoming to depressed. This is the lowest rating I have given out of over 150 books. I will say the author has signs and symptoms of PTSD correct. I really liked the previous books in this series but this book has made me not want to continue the series. The author keeps the same mood the first 7 hours of the book.

So depressing..........Urghhhhh

Way too much introspection, it's as if EVERY main character is undergoing an existential crisis. Nothing happens....and then it all goes to hell out of nowhere. Disjointed, boring, depressing...... The politics on earth are so one sided and make no sense what so ever. It's as if the writer just copy/pasted the Breitbart nonsense. No one would ever act like that. Absurd and trite.

A bit whiny for my taste

Author rambled on too much with Marco. I get he was trying to relay the PTSD but its obvious and could have been conveyed in a lot less words, but he keeps going chapter after chapter. The book was a constant heighten state of sorrow with very little release. I did really enjoy the story though, but I doubt I’ll continue it after this book even though I am curious to see where it goes. But don’t take my word for it. You might really like it. It’s just my two cents. I enjoy a book with highs and lows, but not a book with constant lows that leaves me with a feeling of depression afterwards.

Narrator was great as always.

The old gang is in trouble! Earth Too!

A powerful look at how warriors return home. War follows long after victory is declared.

darker then first three books but still good

This book is much darker (more depressing) then the first 3 books in the series but still worth listening to. The end of the book gives some hope. I've moved on to book 5 to keep following the gang.

Kafer did a great job as usual.
