About this listen
Ryker only had one goal in his life right now:
Turn a certain adventuring guild into a flaming wreck while dancing merrily through the smoldering ruins. All for the chance to get back at a handful of people.
It didn’t work out that way though.
At all.
He’d become the Count of Dungeon, made a hostage, married off to the false queen’s daughter against his will, and had his county made ground zero for a religious war.
To top all that off, the Dark Lord of the North wants to see Ryker personally.
The smoldering ruins of Dungeon have been cleared, the patterns reset, and Ryker has a task that is more than likely too much for him.
Hold Dungeon, and give Lauren, the rightful queen, some breathing room.
Warning and minor spoiler: This novel contains graphic violence, undefined relationships/harem, unconventional opinions/beliefs, and a hero who is as tactful as a dog at a cat show. Listen at your own risk.

Runner has a problem. He and 499,000 men and women are trapped in a game. He also just happens to be the only person from IT who could log everyone out safely. And he doesn't remember his password. He, like everyone else in this nightmare, had his memory scrambled or lost in the process of being loaded into the game. A single garbled message is his only clue to how to save everyone. In a world full of super powers, Felix has a pretty crappy one. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. To upgrade anything. Sounds great on paper. Almost like a video game. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. With that in mind, Felix settled into a normal life. A normal job. His entire world changes when the city he lives in is taken over by a super villain. Becoming a country of one city. A city state.

An existence spent being forced to kill others to satiate a Monster. Where the only thing to look forward to was the blessed, if brief, period of time between paying that bribe. Except that very same Monster is and isn’t Rene. It just happened to live inside his own mind and force him to do what it wanted. Rather than being an actual Monster. That was Rene’s entire life until a fateful day changed that. A day that the career as a hitman for hire built on the Monster’s needs will end. Where Rene will be forced to atone for his actions. Reports to write, forms to fill, coffee to drink, leads to run down. Gus’s life was a tedium and boredom he’d grown comfortable with. One that he sought out after he’d come back from his tour of duty. A detective in the paranormal investigations department. A job he could work day in and day out in relative peace. One cold and forgotten cup of coffee at a time. It was an environment that made some sense to him. At least in comparison to civilian life where almost nothing did. On top of that, it gave him a chance to hide what he was from the rest of the world.

Warner spent his days like almost anyone else. He got up, went to work, answered phone calls in a call center, went home, spent time with his daughter, and went to sleep. Only to repeat the pattern over and over and over. Life was as mundane as anyone could ever fear it to be. Today was the day that all that would change. On this day, his daughter Maya would be nearly fatally injured, plunging Warner into a world of paranormal creatures, monsters, and magic he’d never known existed. The only consolation is that he discovers he’s not quite human, either.

Steve doesn’t know who he is. Or who he was. He doesn’t know anything, actually. Not even where he is. Other than a vast open field of dirt. All Steve knows is that he’s apparently supposed to build a farm. At least that’s his only workable assumption. Given the number of farm-tools left to him. That and the massive number of sacks full of seeds. Unfortunately, this isn’t even the strangest part of this new life. Hidden inside the farm tools, Steve finds messages. Messages that appear in floating windows in front of him.

Sameerixis, or Sam for those who actually know him, isn’t what you’d call normal. He’s a door-to-door salesman, of sorts. One that peddles wares, wishes, and whims to anyone willing to pay his prices. Prices that usually involve a few years of your life, maybe a handful of days, or a single night of pleasure that’ll cost a few hours. He’s an incubus that solves problems. Mental, emotional, spiritual, material, and anything and everything in between. Sam can provide an answer and resolution.

Story
Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic. The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want. Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream.

I’ve always wanted to conquer the Big 5 dungeons ever since one of them took the life of my father nearly fifteen years ago. Nobody ever said the Path of Progression was easy, but my burning desire to dive can’t be quenched. I just never thought I’d be prohibited from getting a diving license just because I tried to help a bratty blonde girl get hers. Soon, we’re joined by a lovely brunette bookworm, and we start diving the dungeon on our own terms.

let's just change everything about the main charac
not sure if the author was upset with how the reader voiced his character or if they just didn't like how they made the character. if you liked the funny, jerky, devilish dungeon lord from book one, sorry. The author explains how his voice is changed with magic, but then when he runs out of magic his voice stays the same. *spoiler* Add to that he gets a brand new body and becomes Mr. nice guy and boom new main character. probably read the next book. just not if they want to rewrite the whole cast again

I'm a big fan of this author and this book was a great follow up to the first one. I'm glad they decided to change Rykers' voice in this one. In my opinion it fits the part a little better.

Liked the first one better, but still good
IMPORTANT: It seems that Arand intends to tie the Dungeon Deposed books into his greater multiverse. It doesn't much matter for your enjoyment of this book, but I suspect it might for book 3. If you plan to continue reading this, I would recommend that you read his Otherlife series if you have not already (it is very enjoyable).
This is on the edge of 3/4 stars for me. Midway through the book I would have said 3, but the end brought it back up to 4.
I've listed to all of Arand's books and have some of them on Kindle. Recently it seems like he has started adding additional characters into his later books that take the place of earlier characters and cause the narrative to revolve around them for a time. I feel like this book cements that pattern in my mind. It's not that I dislike the new member of the Harem that gets added, simply that the character feels unnecessary and receives a lot of focus.
I feel like Andrea Parsneau made an unfortunate choice in the narration, though one driven by the story. Early on our protagonist makes a decision to use magic to change his voice to be more fitting for his new station (something that most people don't seem to notice or comment on). However, at that point Parsneau changes the voice used for the Ryker. I thought the original voice was very distinctive and the new voice by contrast seems very generic. What especially bothered me about this is that the voice is even changed in any internal dialog that happens.
That's not to say all the new characters are bad. In particular I liked one introduced near the end.
Overall the story was fine, though the pacing seems off at times. I find myself very unclear on the scale/size of both dungeon and the kingdom of Dale. This might be something that a print version rectifies with a map, but it did bother me a bit
I also think Ryker's characterization is a bit off. Along with the change of voice, most of his anger seems to flood out of him. There are "reasons" for this, but they don't feel very satisfying or gradual. Letting go of his anger is something that should have been his character arc and instead it is something that just happened. There are still one or two moments where he gets angry, and they feel refreshing, but otherwise it feels like his character was made much more generic.
We also see him perform what seems like extremely impressive magic. However, it is without proper context. How many other people can work spells on the scale that he does? Why don't all mages use the "self-sustaining" spells Ryker makes use of. There are dangers to it, but at the same time we also see him put in a limit on them in one scene. It is "cool" but also feels inconsistent.
This book was definitely weaker than the first one, and it feels like it is trying to tell a different type of story. I don't know for certain, but it almost felt like Arand changed his mind about what direction he wanted to take the story and characters. I will be continuing to read it, but hope the next book has some improvement.

Great read
Great world and good action. They should change Ryder's name to Erection. Great world but the characters are always turned on in life or death situations. Additionally this dude is apparently married to something like 10 women that somehow get along and all deeply love him? Seriously? How about introducing another male character? It's ok. Ryder doesn't need to sleep with and marry every female character. Ryder spends 90% of his time having sex with all his wives and managing their emotions. I don't know how this guy can walk.
