About this listen

Between adjusting to life as a newlywed and trying to survive the first month of medical school, Sara Alderson has a lot on her plate. She definitely doesn’t need to start visiting other people’s dreams again.

Unfortunately for her, it’s happening anyway.

Every night, she sees a different person and a different dream. But every dreamer has one thing in common: they all hate Dr. Morris, the least popular professor in the medical school, and they’re all dreaming about seeing him - or making him - dead.

Once again, Sara finds herself in the role of unwilling witness to a murder before it happens. But this time, there are too many suspects to count, and it doesn’t help matters that she hates Dr. Morris every bit as much as any of his would-be murderers do.

Dream Doctor is the first audiobook in the Dream Doctor Mysteries.

Story is fasinating

I really enjoyed this book, but we always knew when Sara was in a dream. The monologue proceeding it warned us, "Sara is . . . ." The reader really gave it a dire tone, like something bad was going to happen. The plot is well written and with a very exciting ending. The characters are wonderful and engaging, but some emotional aspects I think took away from the story and away from the plot.

okay

This was a little bit better than the first book. It was much better once I sped up the narrator's voice. I don't think I will get the next one.

I Love The Dream Series! Dreamy!

If you could sum up Dream Doctor in three words, what would they be?

I would sum up Dream Doctor in three words: exciting, suspenceful, and enjoyable.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the entire story. It has a perfect continuation from Dream Student, the first book in the series. It has great flow and a very good storyline. What I liked best was that Sara knows whose dreams she is seeing and is able to help the people in her dreams. I like the way she is able to help Margaret, her friend Janet's mother and also Dr. Morris who isn't anyone's favorite doctor but still...

Have you listened to any of Heather Jane Hogan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The only other of Heather Jane Hogan’s performances I've listened to were from this series but I love her in this. She has a delightful, soft voice with perfect flow.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This was a book I wanted to listen to all in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoy this series. It's cleverly written and wonderfully narrated. I received this audiobook free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review.

I hate how long winded this can be sometimes! But I love the series anyways! It's so cute and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

Waiting for Book Three!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

My husband Nick Fury said he really enjoyed this novel, and he is waiting for the next book in the series. He listens to a lot of audio books and he likes the Narrator. It keeps his interest and it's has a good storyline.

What did you like best about this story?

It makes the miles go by faster.

Have you listened to any of Heather Jane Hogan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes the first book in this series. She's a great reader, she handles the different characters fine, no problem keeping up with the storyline.

A little better created than the first

A little better created than the first in the series, Dream Doctor picks up shortly after the first book, and Sara is now in medical school. While I enjoy the premise, and find it unique, the key components that caused me discomfiture in the first book still exist in the second: overuse of description without point or purpose, seemingly endless scenes devoted to daily activities that serve no real purpose but filler, a lack of apparent focus to get to the solution and endpoint and endless sidetracks that are perhaps installed as red herrings but simply serve to throw the reader out of the story without purpose.

I will say that Sara is a bit more decided in her voicing in this installment, although the mystery was far less a mystery than a ‘get to it already’ after several overtold stories about study, walking to the library, tests and classes. While Sara and Ben are married, the story is far less about the struggle to juggle med school with a relationship and other daily activities: yet it never does fully jump into the mystery and tension surrounding being an eyewitness to people’s most private thoughts and impulses.

Again Heather Jane Hogan is the narrator, and her voicing works with the story: there is a decided lack of emotional impact in this book with more telling us about the feelings than actually showing, so the narration also suffers from that lack. Not a bad narration by any stretch, her voice is clear and smooth, with a pitch and tone that is pleasant for a longer listen.

I don’t believe that I am intrigued enough to continue with the series: sadly the premise is lost in the structural and stylistic issues and makes these a less intriguing read and listen. A good editor, some tightening of the descriptions and delivering a more focused plot with less room to diverge into unnecessary detail would help this story to deliver on the promise of the premise.

I received an AudioBook copy from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Dream Walker

Once I sped up the narrator's speed, I loved her performance. The story flowed and Sarah and Brian are perfectly matched. Sarah was able to solve the mystery while making new friends, showing her compassionate nature, and work with her newly married husband. The story was creative and had me constantly guessing , wrongly so about who did it. I was thoroughly entertained and constantly laughing out loud. I recommend this book and appreciate the author giving me a complimentary copy. I will definitely purchase the next book. Excellent 👍

The narrator, Heather Hogan made this book pop.

Ok overall, this book might be even better than book one in the series. Which, as most readers knows, is really not the norm. However, I can see how the author is growing, the story line is better plotted. The pacing is extremely well done. The characters keeps growing in this book and the world building is very well done.

The performance of Heather Hogan really added so much to this story. Especially the scene changes from the waking to the dream world is done with a clear and non negotiable twist.

The world building of a woman in medical school is brilliant. No glossing over, no hours and hours of free time to do as she wishes, no instead this woman hardly has time to turn around twice without regretting the wasted seconds. I loved the reality that was brought in by the author in the setting of the plot. It felt real, it felt authentic which naturally translated toward the suspense in the story making it even more chilling.

A great read/listen for lovers of this genre.

Jenny’s review

I really like the mystery this book has about it. Can you imagine seeing other people’s dreams? That’d be hard not to accidentally say something that they should only know.
Sara Barns now Sara Alderson as she she is married to Brian now and also a medical student. Brian who knows about her dream status and her one good friend Beth are there for her. When Sara starts having dreams about an unpopular doctor named Mr. Morris she knows something wrong is going to happen to him. So she starts observing Dr Morris during class and the people who are closest to him. Things start unfolding around Sara as she is going to school and being newly married and trying to figure out who’s trying to kill Dr Morris? Will she and Brian figure things out in time to save them all?

There’s some language as a heads up.
The narrator does a great job!
