About this listen

New York Times best-selling author Diane Mott Davidson has taken readers by storm with clever mysteries filled with tantalizing plots and mouthwatering recipes. In her 12th novel, her tastiest tale yet, the ingenious storyteller whips up a rich souffle of murder and mischief.

The governor of Colorado has commuted the prison sentence of Goldy Schulz's ultra-handsome, ultra-charming, ultra-venal ex-husband, Dr. John Richard Korman, otherwise known to Goldy as the Jerk. He's released, and soon afterward Goldy becomes the victim of threats, rumors, and violence.

Then there's a murder and suspicion centers on Goldy. Suddenly, she is faced with the challenge of running her successful catering business while fending off two persistent detectives.

Caught in a web of secrets and lies that can tear her family apart, Goldy must use all of her considerable powers of detection to find the real killer before she herself becomes a target.

This was my first experience with this author and I totally enjoyed it. I didn't expect what the end of the book (not the end of the story) was! What fun! I'm anxious to read some more of this.

Fun Listen

I have always loved the Goldy books, and this one is right on point. I don’t want to spoil anything, but a suspicious death, delicious recipes and a relentless caterer and her sidekick make for a really yummy story. Oh wait! That’s Ms. Mott Davidson’s MO for all of her books. They are all really good, but this one is exceptional. I only have one complaint - Barbara Rosenblat is sometimes hard to listen to, simply because she constantly sucks her teeth and loudly swallows. It is so annoying, and it made me remember why I read these books and avoid listening to them. Other than that, this is a delectable book.

Yummy from beginning to end

I love this type of light mystery after reading/listening to so many deep dark mysteries. I really enjoyed it.

Loved it.

Not a dull moment as Goldie gets more head injuries pursuing multiple suspects. So much dirty laundry in Aspen Meadows!

A Real Page Turner!

Book is good, I enjoy this author's mysteries. However, the woman who reads this book makes noise between almost every sentence. It interferes with the enjoyment of the book. I would have rated the book 4 stars, but due to the mouth noises, just 3 stars.

Goldy SHOULD have shot her ex years ago. What a horrible man.

(Only in America would someone give a 1-star review due to ‘language.’ I cannot even remember one ‘bad’ word. And so what? The words offended but the child rape and grooming would get a pass otherwise? These people need to live in a bubble.)

Bye, Jerk!

I loved the book. However, I often found myself distracted by the sounds of the reader turning pages, rustling papers and making many unidentified noises. At one point I found myuself spending more time solving the mystery of what were the irritating background sounds than in solving the mystery ofwho killed the Jerk.

This story of a Colorado caterer is light for most mystery fans, but fun for a break from the Harry Boschs and Jack Reachers and Cotton Malones. The bad guy is easily figured out well before the end and the narrator is way to breathy and throaty and even nasal for my taste. The saving grace is that the recipes served by the caterer are all included at the end of the story and they are worth the listen.

It even includes recipes!
