About this listen

Polly Parrett is appalled when a homeless military veteran and his old dog are accused of murder.

Polly is juggling the care of her wheelchair-bound mother, her pet-sitting business, and the sale of the family home. On top of that she finds herself having to deal with an arrogant but really sexy realtor, and Christmas is coming! None of that seems important, though, when she finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation and must find the real killer before an innocent homeless man and his dog are wrongly convicted.

Holiday charmer

A sweet romance, a blizzard, a murder, a homeless veteran brought back to meaningful life, dogs, cats, and holiday humor as pet sitter Polly Parrett finds herself in the midst of more action than one has any right to expect in a short novella. Jennifer Fournier's deliberate and nicely inflected narration keeps things moving along and all ends are tied up in a satisfactory manner in a lovely holiday tale. A perfect listen for baking Christmas cookies and getting into the spirit of the season. I received a free copy of this audiobook in return for an honest review.

A cozy mystery for animal lovers!

What did you love best about Doggone Christmas?

I am such a huge animal lover, so I found myself really invested in the fate of the characters (especially the dog). There was a lot at stake here & I was cheering Polly on the whole way! She is a strong champion for animals & I shared that sentiment with her.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoy cozy mysteries a lot and this was one that I could easily listen to in one sitting, because it held my attention the whole time. You can easily breeze through this with a cup of hot tea & a rainy afternoon. It has a Christmas title, but can be enjoyed any time of the year!

Have you listened to any of Jennifer Fournier’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never listened to other narrations from her, but she could do a bit better job with differentiating the voices of the women. Otherwise, she made it a really enjoyable listen!

Any additional comments?

This is definitely more of a fluff story, not one with deep plot lines or suspense, but at the same time really likable characters. I enjoyed each and every main & supporting character, especially Suzette's sweetness. Polly resonated a lot with me, because she adores animals & has a sweet heart, and Tyler was the "bad boy" turned charming man. I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review, and this was my unbiased & truthful feedback!

More Dogs, Less Polly

The main character was annoying as heck! Silly and immature which is fine for a YA book, but adult situations occurred. Hard to be amused or sympathetic toward the characters.

Perfect for the holiday car ride to Grandma's

This is a G-rated, family-friendly, cute, short, sweet, feel-good story. Mystery is a bit of a stretch for adults, but that's the price of having a kid-friendly tale. In any case, I would definitely recommend this audiobook for when you're in need of or have a desire for a cute, fluffy listen with very minimal drama and angst that you can share with the whole family.

The narrator does a good job and has the right tone for this type of book. Her male and female voices were reasonable. She was clear and easy to understand, and there were no problems with her pronunciation.

Some reviewers stated that the narration was too slow, but don't let that sway you from the audiobook. I listen to MOST audiobooks, including this one, at 1.25 speed because I believe, in order to enunciate clearly, the narrators HAVE to read more slowly than in usual conversation, and 1.25 usually works well to bring recording speed up to what I consider "normal" speed without elevating the pitch to chipmunk status.

I received this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review. The number of stars is based on where I believe this audiobook rates with other audiobooks of the same type, length and general feel-- not where it rates in comparison to all audiobooks of all time.

Funny and dog-fabulous

I loved this book. It's not Shakespeare, but it is fun, funny and endearing. It was also a descent mystery. I hope there are more of this series and soon! I am obviously crazy about dogs but don't find every dog infused cozy great. okay, this wasn't great, but a great start.
The narrator was very professional - perfect for this book I think.

Cute, easy listen

This was a fun book to listen to. It's cute and light and its fun for all ages. I especially like that it was a Christmas setting. Liz Dodwell's writing was good as was the narration by Jennifer Fournier. She made it fun to listen to with the excitement in her voice. Its like she was really the character. I would recommend this book to animal lovers and anyone who likes, as I do, stories at Christmas time.

This was a sweet story. worth the listen.

I am such a dog lover, so i really wanted to read ( listen) to this story!
Myself and my teenage daughter listened to this on a road trip we took together. It was very easy to listen to, and very enjoyable for both of us.
It's a very cute, sweet, funny and a fast paced story. Though it was predictable and reminded me of a movie you would see on lifetime TV. it was enjoyable. Who doesn't love a mystery story with dogs in it? I will be buying her next book in the series for our trip home to listen to.

I was not too pleased at all with the narrator. she was very slow, and was pretty dull. she was not good at switching up the voices of different people .

Perfect company for a long drive

Any additional comments?

Nigh onto perfect audiobook to listen to when taking a long, boring drive on a Texas highway -- especially with two grandchildren in tow. Take a decent mystery plot, add a likable heroine, a little whimsy, Christmas and dogs to boot, and you've got easy entertainment that makes the hours melt away. And no "are we there yet"s -- and that's a blessing. We particularly enjoyed the performance of the narrator, Jennifer Fournier -- just the right amount of "personality" without distracting from the tale.
