About this listen

Malacca Longwood is a New York City detective. He catches an especially vicious serial killer, Halyard Moonleigh, who is convicted and imprisoned, but he escapes and disappears.

Three years later the killer reappears in Malacca's home town, a place the detective left, physically and emotionally, years before. Now he must go back and confront old animosities, including racial slurs, so he can finally find and destroy Moonleigh.

Malacca has help that no one else can claim: his grandmother. She has been dead for 22 years but has never truly left him.

Devil's Blade

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Action filled packed from beginning to the end of this audiobook. I could not pause because I want to keep listening to what will happen next. It really kept my interest all the time I was listening to this audiobook.

Narrator Doomed the Book

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book from Audiobook Blast in return for a fair and honest review.

All too often, a bad narrator can make it impossible to enjoy what might very well be an excellent book. I can't say if Devil's Blade is excellent or terrible because the narrator, Miles Taylor, made it impossible for me to even finish the book. With an excruciatingly monotone delivery, and broken phrasing, it was impossible for me to even follow the story. I found myself replaying segments over and over in order to understand what just happened, because time and time again the narration completely took me out of the story, until I finally had to give up on the book.

Liked it a lot

I really enjoyed the story itself however The narrator was terrible. I think the book would have been a lot better if the narrator has shown some emotion. Sentences were often run together so I had to think about them before they made sense. He hardly voice characters at all and wasn't consistent in it if he did. There was a point where three people were having a conversation and it sounded like the same person and one of them was a girl. I could have used a few less "hon" and "love" and so forth by the main character and his girlfriend but this may have actually been OK if the narrator was better. That being said, the book itself is pretty good and worth a listen/read. I figured out the twist pretty quickly but it didn't take away from the story and I wanted to finish it. Give it a try I think you'll enjoy it. I was given a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

Not a bad book, give it a read.

Wasn't a bad book. It was the first one I have listened to by this author. The story moved fairly well although I managed to figure parts of the story before the author revealed them. Enjoy the book!

Sadistic Killer

I really enjoyed this book and the characters. It contained gruesome, some supernatural and a crazy killer. It was action packed and totally good listen (it took a bit to get use to the narrator which I felt was a little blah). I would like to see more with NYC detective M. Longwood. Devil's Blade

Any additional comments?

"This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast."

The general plot is good, however the author likes to use excessive similes. The story held my attention, but a little weird that a New York

cop would have a super model girlfriend that follows him to his hometown without having personal bodyguard, and act as if she's on vacation.Too

many bad guys to keep straight. Law Enforcement officers taking the weekend off during a murder investigation, I think not!

The narration was very good, each character was brought to life by the narrator and voices were easy to listen to.
